Chapter 410 Uninvited Guests

Goodnight.Fifteen minutes later, Sebastian finally heard a steady, soft breathing on the other end.

Looks like she’s asleep.

He didn’t hang up. Rubbing his temples, he leaned back in the chair and closed his eyes.

The doctor had said Nathan would need time to recover after the surgery. He might not wake up for a while. They’d look at lowering the sedation in a week.

Sebastian had always been emotionally reserved, except around Serena. But Nathan was his only older brother left. He used to have two. Aaron had passed away. Of course, he wanted Nathan to be okay.

He sent Deanna home, and his tone was sharp.

Arguments had their limits. She didn’t need to be raising a fuss at the hospital. And Trevor wasn’t there with Nathan anyway.

Bryce woke up early at five. Sure enough, the first thing he asked was, How’s it at the hospital?

The butler, who’d been napping lightly outside, replied, Old Mr. Levine, Mr. Nathan’s surgery went well. Don’t worry too much. It’s only five o’clock. Mr. Levine wants you to rest a bit more.

Hearing that, Bryce visibly relaxed.

Even though Serena had warned the staff, some media still caught wind of things.

They even reported that Nathan was in critical condition on the financial news.

Sebastian had the piece taken down quickly, but the damage was done for anyone who needed to see it.

Mom, do we really have to go?

Don’t be silly. If we don’t go now, are we gonna wait until after they divvy up the inheritance?

Alright, fine.

Serena only went to the hospital after she’d finished breakfast.

As she was coming down the stairs, a polished woman in heels was squeezing past with a young man hustling alongside her.

Serena lost her footing for a moment and twisted her ankle. Ughshe frowned. Everyone’s trying to get down. Why are you pushing?

The woman sneered, looking down her nose. Ha, maybe you should’ve kept your balance. You twisted your ankle, not our problem. Stop trying to play the victim.

Alright, mom, enough. Let’s go. We need to get to the family recognition!

They hurried off, and Serena paused to catch her breath before continuing toward the ward.

But in front of Nathan’s room, she saw that woman and her son again.

Davisa Bailey had shown up with Jasen Bailey, catching everyone off guard

Deanna turned, frowning. Who are you? Wrong room, maybe?

Before she could finish, Davisa burst into tears and rushed to Nathan’s bedside. Nathan, why did you get sick? What are Jasen and I supposed to do if you’re down like this?

Deanna’s face went pale. Whowho are you?

Davisa waved at Jasen behind her. Jasen, come over. See your dad. He’s always been so proud of you.

Suddenly, everyone’s eyes turned to the man named Jasen.

Jasen hadn’t been as sharplooking as the Levinesmen. But he was still decent enough, and he resembled the tearful Davisa even more. Up close, his eyes and features carried a few hints of Nathan.

Bryce felt a bit overwhelmed by the sudden appearance of this grandson. The butler helped him sit down. What’s going on here?No one among the Levines could answer that. The only one who could was still lying in a hospital bed.

Davisa wiped her tears. Old Mr. Levine, I’ve been with Nathan for over twenty years. No regrets. I raised Jasen on my own and got him through college. Everything was finally looking up, and then I saw online that he might not make it.

Bryce’s temples throbbed, and his chest ached. Nonsense! Who said Nathan isn’t going to make it?

Davisa pressed her lips together. Then, Old Mr. Levine, why isn’t Nathan awake yet?
