After Keith posted on Twitter, he went straight to his office.
All along the way, people were sneaking glances at him. But with his face set in a grim expression and his brisk, almost stormy pace, no one dared approach him or say a word.
Lately, he had been working on a business venture with Nathan, and a backlog of paperwork was waiting for him on his desk. Once inside his office, he got to work.
But he hadn’t even finished reading a single page when the office door burst open. Edith stormed in, brandishing her phone. “What is going on? Did you know Amara is pregnant?” she demanded, pointing at her screen.
On her phone was the very tweet he had just posted. Edith was shaking with anger, her hand trembling. She never imagined her son would willingly accept raising someone else’s child.
Already irritated, Keith could barely contain himself. His mother had barged in without even knocking, and now she was confronting him about this—his frustration was about to boil over.
He abruptly threw down the file he was holding. “Yes, I know. I’m willing to accept it.”
“Smack!”
Edith slapped him hard across the face.
She’d used so much force that her own palm went numb. Shaking out her hand, she glared at Keith and said, enunciating each word: “How did I raise such a fool? Are you even a man?”
Keith’s cheek stung fiercely. He closed his eyes for a moment and replied, “Mom, you gave birth to me. If anyone knows whether I’m a man or not, it’s you.”
“I have a ton of work to do—piles of documents that need my attention. Can you let me finish? Isn’t your company what matters most to you? If I don’t handle this, it’ll only hurt the company.”
Thanks to his statement, there weren’t as many people attacking Amara now, but everyone was still in shock at everything that had happened.
Keith scrolled through his phone for a while, then walked to the window and stared outside, his mind a tangled mess.
Elsewhere, Emma had also seen Keith’s tweet. Disbelief was written all over her face.
Keith actually knew Amara was pregnant? Then why would he agree to marry her? Did he have no self-respect left? How could this be possible?
Emma was so furious that she smashed a set of her favorite ceramic cups. Then, wearing a dark, stormy expression, she started calling her contacts, instructing them to ramp up the pressure online.
Since Keith was already aware of the pregnancy, there was no point harping on that. The new focus would be to attack Amara’s character—portraying her as immoral and untrustworthy.
