Under the Veil I Rule (Amara) novel Chapter 708

Hogan immediately asked, “You really took the blame for someone else? Who was it?”

Back when the incident first happened and the investigation pinned it on Celeste, Hogan had his doubts. Celeste had no motive to harm him, and he wasn’t even sure she was capable of pulling something like that off. Yet Celeste had admitted to it herself and had quickly left the country.

He’d tried calling her countless times, hoping to get some answers, but Celeste never picked up. Eventually, she even blocked his number. Frustrated and hurt, he stopped trying to reach her, and the incident was left unresolved.

Now Celeste was back, saying even her parents had forbidden her from returning and that she had come home in secret. She also claimed she’d taken the fall for someone else…

As a daughter of the Everly family, Celeste wasn’t necessarily the number one socialite in Wye, but her status was still extremely high. Who could possibly have had enough influence to threaten her? Hogan was utterly baffled.

“Tell me—what really happened back then? For whom did you take the blame?”

“Don’t worry,” Hogan reassured her. “As long as you never tried to hurt me, we’re still family. No matter what happens, I’ll always protect you.”

Celeste glanced at Hogan. “Can I really trust you?”

Hogan nudged her, a bit annoyed. “What’s that supposed to mean? Are you really acting like a stranger with me? Do you not see me as your brother anymore?”

He was genuinely hurt. Though Celeste was actually his cousin, Hogan had always treated her as his own sister. He admired Finnian, but his feelings for Celeste were different—tinged with affection and a strong urge to protect her, maybe because he knew she hadn’t had an easy childhood.

Celeste sighed. “Of course I see you as my brother. It’s just... life abroad was terrible for me. You have no idea what I went through.”
