Some of the attacks against her in the comments had been suppressed, and she didn't need to think twice to know it was Finnian's doing.
Although his actions were beneficial to her, she didn't want to be indebted to him, so it was better if he stopped.
Ms. Sullivan's tone was firm, and Will was at a loss. He looked toward Finnian for guidance.
Finnian simply picked up the phone from the desk and gestured for Will to leave.
Will understood immediately, exited the chairman's office, and thoughtfully closed the door behind him.
Finnian turned off the speakerphone, held the phone to his ear, and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. Gazing down at the bustling traffic below, he said, "Amara, the things people are saying online are nasty. It's better to keep it under control."
Amara froze when she heard Finnian's voice, and then a wave of anger washed over her.
She had called Will specifically to avoid speaking with Finnian, never imagining he would be with him at that moment.
But on second thought, it made sense. Will and Finnian spent half their days together, so it wasn't surprising they were together now.
Amara said, "I don't need any of that. Delete that tweet immediately, and stop suppressing the comments. I really don't need you to do those things for me."
By the end, her voice was tinged with emotion. She was clearly angry.
Finnian paused for a moment before replying, "I'm not deleting the tweet. The post itself isn't out of line, and it's fine to leave it up. As for suppressing comments, if you don't like it, I'll stop. Is that acceptable?"
When Finnian had composed the tweet, he had deliberately reined in his feelings for Amara, sticking to an objective assessment of her character.
The Everly Group's official account had considerable influence. With that tweet up, people might change their opinion of Amara, so he wasn't going to delete it.
"No," Finnian said without hesitation.
"They won't think a busy person like me would post a tweet myself. They'll assume it was the social media manager. Even if they speculate, it won't go too far. So I'm not deleting it."
He was just being difficult. As if any social media manager would dare post something like that without Mr. Everly's direct order.
It even mentioned her status as "the former wife of the Everly Group's chairman." If a manager wrote that without Finnian's approval, would they even want to keep their job?
Amara couldn't help but feel a surge of anger.
She could see it clearly now. Finnian was just stonewalling her to avoid deleting the tweet.
In that case, there was no point in talking to him anymore. If he was determined not to delete it, it wasn't like she could hold a knife to his throat and force him.
