Julian's face was thunderous, his voice unconsciously rising. "Sebastian!"
"Whoa, don't blow a gasket."
Sebastian didn't sound remotely intimidated; if anything, his tone turned mockingly soothing. "Stress is a killer, you know. You've got a mountain of garbage to deal with, and you're already a wreck. What are you going to do if you stroke out?"
"..."
Sebastian was never a man of many words. If he was initiating conversation or rambling on, he was absolutely plotting something devious.
Julian instantly regretted not shutting down his train of thought the second he had the chance, giving him a wide-open lane for sarcasm.
But Julian had been the one waiting on this call. Given the family dynamics and their respective ages, blowing up at him wasn't exactly a viable option.
"Stop talking nonsense. We're discussing serious business," Julian said, forcing a subject change.
Sebastian wasn't having it. "Are you saying my health advice isn't serious?"
Julian: "..."
Sebastian's patience officially expired. "If you don't want to talk, I'm hanging up."
And with that, the line went dead.
It was well into the afternoon shift when Finnian returned from his lunch break.
Listening to his boss flawlessly and righteously chew someone out, Finnian lost count of how many times he had silently noted that Julian was completely outmatched.
Seeing Sebastian hang up, Finnian stepped forward, flipping open two highly urgent documents and sliding them across the desk.
Sebastian flipped through them with casual indifference, grabbed a custom pen, and slashed his signature across the bottom lines.
He was in a spectacular mood. His pen strokes were brisk and light, even adding a sharp, triumphant little hook at the end of his name.
Finnian watched him sign the second file, his eyes drawn to his boss's face. He deeply suspected that if the young CEO wasn't notoriously stone-faced, he'd be humming a pop song right now.
