Elara opened the bedroom door and stepped out. Seeing that Julian was still frozen in place, she stopped and called out to him, "Are you not coming?"

Julian snapped out of his daze. He glanced back at her, then returned to the side of the bed. Leaning his weight gently against the mattress, he leaned over and kissed Melody's forehead, whispering one more soft goodnight before standing up and walking toward Elara.

Seeing him move, Elara headed back to her own room first.

By the time Julian entered the master bedroom, Elara was grabbing her pajamas to go take a shower.

Struck by a sudden thought, Julian closed the door and strode toward her. "Are you not curious at all about what I'm busy with when I work late?"

Elara paused, shooting him a look that clearly said he was being completely baffling.

Remembering how her dismissive attitude perfectly mirrored an outsider's, Julian felt an immediate, offended surge of displeasure.

Just as he was about to say something, Elara fired a question right back at him. "Don't you always say I don't understand corporate management? Even if I asked, it's not like I could do anything about it."

"..."

Julian choked on his words. The speech he had just brewed up was effortlessly swatted back by Elara.

"Well, you can't just ask absolutely nothing, can you?" he argued defensively.

Elara looked even more baffled now. She stared at him the way one looks at a rowdy toddler—deeply exasperated, not wanting to engage, yet forced to placate him. With a sigh of pure resignation, she played along. "If I asked, would you even tell me?"

"..."

No.

Julian thought about it carefully. Not only was it highly likely he wouldn't tell her, but he would probably also find it incredibly annoying if Elara constantly badgered him with those questions.

But he wasn't demanding that Elara interrogate him all the time. He just wanted a show of care.
