She really liked Sebastian.

"Sebastian smells so good, too. I love it."

Melody spoke her mind directly, her tone and expression remaining deadpan and serious. "It smells way better than the sweet scent on Dad."

"He's like a prince. So handsome."

Elara was amused by her daughter's infatuation, asking with a smile, "So, who is more handsome? Dad or Sebastian?"

That question stumped Melody.

The little girl kept a straight face, looking entirely serious as she gave it some genuine thought. "They're both really handsome."

Elara continued to tease her. "You can't pick just one?"

Melody protested, "Ugh... Mom, you're making this really hard for me."

Elara stopped teasing her daughter and surrendered. "I'm sorry, my bad."

"It's okay. I know you didn't do it on purpose, Mom."

Once inside the room, Melody let go of Elara's hand and skipped over to the table. She grabbed a pistachio, cracked it open, and popped it into her mouth.

Elara set the plates of food they had brought up onto the table. There was still some warm water in the kettle, so she found some glasses and poured them both a drink.

"Mom."

Melody leaned in close and whispered, "I think Sebastian is more handsome."

Elara raised an eyebrow, mildly surprised.

She wasn't surprised that Sebastian was more handsome than Julian, but rather by Melody's choice.

Because of her sensitive nature, Melody rarely interacted with outsiders. In Melody's heart, her dad was always her favorite guy in the whole world—or so she claimed.

"Sebastian is a prince, and Dad is Dad. It's different."

"You're welcome."

As Elara spoke, her phone buzzed twice against her clutch, vibrating with incoming messages.

Elara pulled out her phone. It was from her best friend, Sarah Norwood.

[Babe, is Melody feeling better? It's been so long. When are you free to bring the little one out to hang out?]

Elara read it and replied: [Sounds good. Will you be at the law firm tomorrow?]

[I actually need to come see you about something.]

Sarah confirmed she would be at the firm tomorrow and asked what was going on.

Just as Elara was about to type her reply, the door was suddenly pushed open from the outside.

Vivian pushed the door open. Seeing Elara and Melody, she froze for a second before offering an apologetic smile. "I'm so sorry. I was just looking for a room to rest in. I had no idea anyone was in here."
