"See you later."
Elara waved as she watched him walk into the corporate building, only slowly rolling up the window once he was out of sight.
Seeing the coast was clear, Lester started the engine and pulled out of the parking garage.
"Lester."
Just as they reached the intersection, Elara called out to him. "Let's not go home just yet."
"Oh?" Lester paused. "Where would you like to go, ma'am?"
"I want to hit the mall and do some shopping."
The corporate office was right across the street from Oceanview Mall. Glancing at the traffic light ahead, Lester asked, "Are we heading to Oceanview?"
Elara considered it for a moment. "No, let's go to Pearl Plaza instead."
She wanted to stop by the salon and load some funds onto her membership card.
"You got it."
Lester acknowledged, following the traffic signals to switch to the right lane and heading toward Pearl Plaza.
Elara unlocked her phone and opened WeChat.
The message from earlier was indeed from Sebastian.
Because she hadn't replied for a while, Sebastian assumed his invitation had put her in a tough spot and hurriedly sent an explanation: [You don't need to feel obligated. Everything I've done was of my own free will, because I wanted to.]
Reading his reassurance, Elara typed back: [I didn't feel obligated at all. I just got held up by something.]
She then quoted his message asking for dinner and replied: [I really should treat you to dinner. You pick the place, but no catering to my tastes like last time. Pick something you actually love.]
Even though she laid down the ground rules, there was no guarantee Sebastian would actually listen.
After a brief pause, she added: [I'm really curious about what you like. Show me your favorite spots.]
