Oblivious to their silent exchange, Jocelyn stared at the mountain of Kingsport delicacies. "This is way too much," she sighed. "It'll take us months to eat all of this."
Meeting Elara's gaze, Sebastian's eyes curved in amusement as he patiently addressed Jocelyn. "Just take your time with it."
"But it won't taste as good if it sits too long," she fretted.
Elara felt equally helpless. He had already lugged it all here, so she couldn't exactly make him carry it back. "Please don't do this anymore," she chided him.
He nodded thoughtfully. "So, next time I should check with you before I buy anything?"
Elara blinked. "What?"
He looked at her earnestly. "Next time I want to bring you gifts, I'll text you first to get the green light on the quantity?"
Elara stared at him.
"But that ruins the surprise," he added, sounding genuinely disappointed.
"Does it even count as a gift if you know it's coming?"
...
She couldn't understand his obsession with bringing things over every time they met. "We're just hanging out. You don't have to bring something every single time."
"But I want to."
He rejected her logic without a second thought, his gaze drifting from Elara to Melody. "I love seeing how happy you both get when you receive them."
Elara didn't know what to say to that.
She truly couldn't figure him out.
Sebastian's lips curled up. He crouched down to meet Melody at eye level. "Are you happy with the gifts, Melody?"
She nodded vigorously. "Super happy!"
He hovered a hand over her head, and when she didn't flinch, he gently ruffled her hair. "Then I'm happy too."
Standing up, he looked pointedly at Elara. "See? Melody loves it."
Elara sighed.
