Sebastian never sent audio messages to anyone, but to accommodate Melody, he eagerly switched to audio replies. "Absolutely."
"Whenever you want to play, I'll be there."
Realizing that sounded a bit too much like eager pandering, Sebastian quickly added, "As long as I'm not stuck at work, of course."
His messages were short and sent in rapid succession. Before Melody could even finish her reply to the first one, the next two arrived. Overwhelmed by the barrage, Melody quickly decided to just initiate a video call instead.
She had already mastered the art of making voice and video calls. Sebastian was patiently waiting for her next voice note when a video call invitation suddenly popped up on his screen, momentarily startling him.
When he saw who was calling, Sebastian offered a helpless smile and decisively accepted.
A second later, Melody's bright face completely filled his screen.
"Yay! I see Sebastian!"
She squealed in delight, pulled the phone back slightly, and waved eagerly at the camera. "Good morning, Sebastian!"
Sebastian pulled his phone back a bit as well, waving back. "Good morning, Melody."
With the camera further away, he could see the background behind her. In the top left corner, Jocelyn Sterling was walking over with a glass of milk.
She wasn't a fan of video calls, and the moment she realized Melody was on one, she backed away with her milk, slipping entirely out of frame.
In the top right corner, a faint shadow drifted past—Elara.
But it seemed she disliked cameras even more than Jocelyn. Aside from that fleeting shadow, not even the edge of her clothes made it into the frame.
Sebastian felt a pang of disappointment.
Yesterday, he had successfully found excuses to play with them and crash their dinner, but today, without an excuse, he wasn't even allowed a passing glance.
Luckily, Melody remained completely oblivious. Seeing him staring so intently at the screen, she assumed he was totally focused on her.
"Look, Sebastian!"
