"You're falsely accusing me," Sebastian said, his tone entirely innocent. "If you still had to work this afternoon, we could have eaten at your office. But going back inside now would be awkward, wouldn't it?"

"Plus, the car I drove today really isn't built for dining."

Elara was speechless.

She almost wished she had rejected Sarah's offer and stayed at her desk.

"Fine."

Elara sighed, buckling her seatbelt in defeat. "Let's go, then. If we keep wasting time, the food's going to get cold."

"Okay."

Sebastian happily started the engine, pulling out of the lot and heading toward his place. His voice carried a distinct lightness, practically humming with joy as a faint smile lingered on his lips while he drove.

Elara remained silent.

He hadn't been exaggerating; his house was incredibly close to her firm. It took less than ten minutes to reach his gated community.

It was a sprawling neighborhood of luxury villas and high-end apartments. His villa was tucked deep in the back, requiring a few minutes of driving just to reach the driveway once they passed the gates.

He smoothly pulled into the garage, killed the engine, and led Elara out of the car and into the private elevator.

When the doors opened, the smart lights automatically flared to life, illuminating the massive interior.

Elara glanced around his new place, genuinely surprised. Instead of the stark, monochromatic palette she expected to match his assertive charm, the villa was decorated in a warm, inviting rustic style.

"My mom loved this style," Sebastian explained casually as he grabbed a pair of slippers from the shoe cabinet by the elevator. "I grew up around it, so I guess it just stuck with me."

Elara froze, entirely unsure of how to respond to that piece of trivia. She quickly averted her gaze, slipped into the provided footwear, and followed him inside.

Sebastian led her straight to the dining room. He set the food down and gestured for her coat, taking it to the living room to hang it up.

The dining room featured an independent washbasin. Elara went over to wash her hands, and when Sebastian returned to unpack the takeout, she took over the task so he could wash his own hands.

Even though it was just a casual lunch, he still looked at her with total sincerity and thanked her for her hard work.
