Chapter 108
Ethan reached out and pulled her into his arms. He leaned down and pressed a very light kiss to her forehead-held it there for a few seconds-then let go.
He turned to me. His expression was serious. “While I’m gone, you two look after each other.
I nodded. “Don’t worry.
He walked over, opened his arms, and gave me a firm hug. Then he stepped back, turned and walked quickly into his room.
Ten minutes later he came out with a carry-on suitcase, a dark jacket replacing the rumpled shirt. his phone in his hand. He looked sharper than he had a moment ago.
He reached the door. Paused. Looked back at Lily. His gaze held on her face for a second. Then he opened the door and left.
The sound of his footsteps faded down the corridor.
Lily stood where she was. She didn’t move. She kept her eyes fixed on the closed door.
A long time passed. Then she spoke. “He left in such a rush he forgot his jacket.”
I followed her line of sight. On the back of the chair hung a Ethan’s grey cardigan, the one he wore almost every evening when he was at the apartment.
I didn’t say anything. Lily walked over, picked up the cardigan, folded it carefully, and held it against her chest. Then she went to the window, pulled back the curtain, and looked down at the
street
A black sedan was pulling away from the curb, disappearing into traffic. She watched it until it
was gone
I stood a few steps behind her and kept my mouth shut.
A long while later, she finally came back from the window. She placed the cardigan on the arm of the sofa and sat down. like her body had suddenly lost its battery.
I sat beside her “What are you going to do?”

Chapter 108
She was quiet for a moment. Then she said, “He’s the heir to Ashford Group. My family’s situation… it’s lower than his.”
288 Vouchers
Seeing the dejected look on her face, my heart ached. I pulled her into a hug and said, “Ashford Group or a regular employee-it doesn’t matter. What matters is that we know what kind of person he is.” I looked at her. “The nights he stayed up with us in the safe house. The way he carried your luggage up and down stairs without complaining. The sandwiches and coffee he brought you. None of that changes because of who his father is.”
Lily turned to look at me. Her eyes were still red, but the corner of her mouth curved-just slightly
“When did you get so good at comforting people?”
I smiled. “I learned from the kids at the community centre.
She wiped the corner of her eye. Her tone finally came back to something close to normal. “By the way, I start classes in a week. I won’t be able to hang out with you every day after that.” She looked at me. “What are you planning to do next?”
I leaned back against the sofa cushion and thought for a moment.
“I’ve been at the community centre long enough to notice a lot of kids who are in the same position I used to be. Ignored. Overlooked. Not treated properly. So I want to use the trust fund to set up a dedicated organisation-somewhere for kids like that. A safe place to live. Proper schooling Adults who actually listen to them.”
Lily stared at me, almost touched. “Are you serious?” I nodded.
“Have you thought of a name?”
I shook my head. “Not yet. I’ll figure it out when the time comes.
She reached over and squeezed my hand. “That’s good. Really. I back you.
I nodded. Then I lifted my hand to cover my mouth and let out a small yawn.
Laly let go of my hand immediately, stood up, and pushed my shoulder. “That’s enough. You’ve been flying and dealing with all this since who knows when. Go to bed. Everything else can wait till tomorrow
I let her push me to my feet and smiled. “Got it.”
