Joselyn seemed deeply regretful of her decision. “When I was selecting my electives, I noticed how popular he was on the school forum. I thought, since it was just an elective, it wouldn’t be so bad. Fearing the seats would fill up quickly, I registered the moment registration opened.”
The more she talked, the more devastated she looked. In the end, she dropped her forehead onto the desk with a groan. “I’m finished. There’s no way I’m passing this. I didn’t understand a single word. Listening to that lecture felt like trying to decipher something from the heavens.”
Ava almost laughed.
So, she only chose the class because Keith is attractive? She doesn’t even consider whether she can earn the credit.
That thought made Ava raise her eyes toward the front of the room.
Keith was standing at the podium, and his attention had clearly been on her for some time. The instant she looked over, his gaze locked onto hers.
Ava froze.
She had only meant to sneak one glance, nothing more. Instead, she was caught immediately. A flicker of guilt rose in her chest, as though she had been exposed for doing something she should not have been doing. She lowered her eyes at once and refused to look back up.
Joselyn remained slumped over the desk. Looking at Ava’s side profile, she spoke with heartfelt admiration, “You’re ridiculously pretty, you know that?”
Ava turned toward her. “You’re pretty too.”
Joselyn lifted her head and grinned. “Only when I’m not talking. The second I open my mouth, the illusion dies.” D
A little later, Keith checked the time, then tapped the desk lightly. “Break’s over. Pay attention.”
Joselyn dragged herself upright with an exaggerated sigh, rolled her eyes, and forced herself to sit properly again.
Finally, class ended.
The bell had barely rung before Joselyn started stuffing her things into her bag. She looked desperate to escape. Giving Ava a quick wave, she hurried off. “I’m leaving first. Bye, Ava. See you next class.”

Ava watched her rush off and could not help finding it amusing. During class, Joselyn had looked like a wilted flower. The moment class was over, she came back to life like she had been revived on the spot.
Ava packed up as well, though she did not leave immediately. Too many people were still crowding the aisle, so she stayed in her seat and waited for the room to clear.
“Ava.”
A male voice sounded beside her.
She turned in surprise. “Dario? You’re here too?”
He smiled at her. “This is my major. Since Professor Holcomb also teaches this elective, I registered for it.”
That made everything click for Ava. “Oh, I see.”
At the front, Keith had just finished answering a student’s question. As soon as he turned around, he saw Ava talking with Dario.
His brows nearly drew together. Dario? Do they know each other?
Keith’s gaze lingered on the boy a little longer. Dario’s warm expression made it clear he was another admirer, no guesswork needed.
He had expected this from the start. Once Ava entered the university, attention from men was unavoidable. Knowing that in theory and seeing it in front of him were two very different things.
“Dario,” Keith called.
Dario immediately turned toward him. “Yes, Professor Holcomb?”
Keith’s tone was calm, though not especially warm. “How much of today’s lecture did you actually understand?”
The question caught Dario off guard. Still, he answered politely, “There were still a few parts I’m not clear on.”
Keith looked at him coolly. “Then stop standing around and go review.”
Dario hesitated for a second, glanced at Ava again, then left the classroom without another word.

Ava looked toward Keith.
The moment their eyes met, she understood.
So that was what that was.

Then she looked around and saw that several male students nearby had also left quickly, as if none of them wanted to stay behind. She was left standing in the suddenly empty lecture hall with her bag over her shoulder, completely baffled by how swiftly the room had emptied.
Keith stepped down from the podium and paused in front of her. “Did you follow most of the class?”
Ava nodded. “I understood it.”
A hint of satisfaction appeared on his face. “I expected that. You were never going to struggle with this. Come on. We’ll leave together.”
Ava studied him for a moment. “Were you jealous just now?”
Keith paused, then looked at her. “Jealous? Why do you ask that?”
