Troy set his brush down in haste. Yet his nerves betrayed him, and he fumbled the very first character. A flush of color rose to his cheeks at once.

Felix walked past him, made a round of the room, and made his way over to Ava. By then, she was more than halfway through. Her focus was absolute, rendering her wholly oblivious to her surroundings.

He stopped and watched her for a moment. Without a word, he quietly moved on.

When the final stroke was laid, Ava allowed herself a quiet exhale. She set down her brush and regarded her work. It was satisfactory-presentable, at the very least.

Troy murmured from beside her. “You are amazing. It is truly well done.”

She glanced at his sheet, noting that he had barely progressed past the first few characters, and explained, “There is no reason to envy me. Practice makes perfect. Given enough of both, you’ll get there soon.”

He looked at her and smiled.

Her exceptional talent was undeniable, and yet the people at school had spoken ill of her. It was nothing but jealousy that had driven them to it.

Felix regarded her work and nodded. “This is well done. Who is your professor?”

“My professor has already passed away.” It was not entirely a lie, for they were two worlds apart. And it would be impossible for them to meet again.

“Many of the great calligraphic works from the ancient Terran era have since been lost. Even records of the Sages of Calligraphy are rarely seen today. Speaking of which, the Slender Gold style is very much debated these days. Your work doesn’t resemble it at all.”

“This is the refined style. Carl was a master in the Tala dynasty during the ancient Terran era. He was my inspiration from the very beginning. My professor and I are both deeply fond of his work.”

Even though there were more renowned names, Ava had always felt a deeper affinity for the refined style. It was often said that George’s script was muscular and Ron’s was bony. She had studied both but never got good at either. The Willow style was the worst of it-she just could not get the hang of it.

Felix continued to study her work. “If your professor were still alive, I would very much have liked to pay him a visit. As for this refined style you speak of, I shall look into it when I have the chance.”

“Professor DuPont, how did the Slender Gold style come to be so well regarded today?”

Felix looked up at her question. “The Slender Gold style is held in high regard among young people today. You must know Tylissa. She is credited as the originator of the Slender Gold style, and a piece of her work is even preserved in a museum.”

Tylissa Clark, the originator of the Slender Gold style? If only Siel were alive to dispute this claim.

“Allow me to hold on to your work for a few days. I shall return it to you in our next week’s elective class.”

Another week passed before Ryan finally finished his filming and returned to Capitol Planet. Aya had known in advance that he was coming back, and she made sure to keep her schedule clear for him, lest he find reason to sulk.

That Saturday morning, he did not even bother to sleep in. He came to the Morren Residence in considerable haste.

Ava had only just woken up when she found him at the door, and she couldn’t help but sound surprised “Did you not arrive at Capitol Planet in the middle of the night? How are you here so early?”

His gaze settled on her, travelling over her lingeringly. “You’ve lost a little weight.”

“You’re imagining things. I’ve been pushing my physical training harder to build muscle,” She said as she made her way to the dining table. “Breakfast?”

Ryan smiled. “Since I’ve not eaten, I shall have to impose on your hospitality.”

Once he

taken his

He put a dumplin, the android immediately set another plate right before him.

He put a dumpling on his plate and asked. “How is your physical training?”

Ava nodded between bites. “It’s going well since I have not been staying at the dormitory lately. Mason found me a place near school, and I have a personal trainer for my sessions.”

Her days were packed-morning classes, mental training at noon, and physical training in the evenings. She had even started skipping club activities. Had she been less energetic, she doubted she could have kept it up day after day.

Ryan smiled. “I will ask Dolly to give me two days off. Then, I can supervise your training in the evenings.”

The food suddenly lost all its savor. How did they all find the time to take turns showing up like this? It seemed she had truly acquired quite the collection of self-appointed guardians.

“In that case, perhaps we should call off today’s date. Then, I shall head straight back to my training.”

! He faltered, his brows drawing together slightly. “Absolutely not! I have been away for so long, and we

finally have a chance to spend a day together. You cannot play favorites and treat me differently from the

others.”

She glanced sideways at him. “Did you not just say you were coming to supervise my training?”
