Ryan had been behind the wheel for nearly forty minutes before he and Ava finally settled on a restaurant.

As they sat waiting for their meal, Ryan pulled up a picture on his device and passed it over to her.

“Bennie’s cat recently had four kittens. They’ve just turned one month old. Are you interested in adopting one?”

Ava lowered her gaze to the screen. In the photo, several tiny kittens huddled close as they nursed, while their mother lovingly groomed them. The scene radiated warmth and tenderness.

“There are plenty more where that came from.” Ryan swiped through additional pictures, showing her each kitten in turn.

Every single one was irresistibly charming, their wide, sparkling eyes as clear and bright as crystal.

Creatures this adorable could brighten anyone’s day instantly. Ava smiled faintly. “They’re absolutely precious, but honestly, I don’t think I have enough time to properly care for a cat right now.”

“I’ll take care of it,” Ryan replied without hesitation.

Ava stared at him in disbelief. “You? You’re already overloaded with work!”

His career in the entertainment industry kept him constantly occupied, and during busy periods, his schedule became overwhelming. It was hard to imagine where he’d find the time for a pet.

“If I get swamped, Bennie can watch it for a while,” Ryan said casually. “He has plenty of cats already, and he even employs people to help care for them.”

That response immediately made Ava laugh behind her hand. It was such a perfectly Ryan answer.

“We should get one,” Ryan urged.

She arched her brow suspiciously. “This sounds more like you want a cat and are trying to rope me into it.”

Ryan cleared his throat awkwardly. “Don’t you love fluffy animals? I saw a picture you posted recently where you were petting a cat.”

Only then did Ava remember.

A few days earlier, she had accompanied Naomi to a pet store, where Naomi was picking up a puppy she’d reserved.

The shop owner also had several stunning cats, all of them gentle and friendly, and Ava had spent some time petting them.

Naomi had snapped candid photos of the moment, and Ava later uploaded them to her Holoband. She hadn’t imagined Ryan would not only notice them but also take them to heart.

After giving it some thought, Ava finally nodded. “Alright. Let’s adopt one together.”

Hearing her say, “Let’s adopt one together,” filled Ryan with an almost ridiculous level of excitement.

Trying-and failing-to hide his enthusiasm, he immediately said, “Then once we’re done eating, let’s head over to Bennie’s place.”

“Wouldn’t that interrupt his rest?”

“It’s fine. I’ll text him now.”

Once lunch was over, they headed directly to Bennie’s home.

Bennie had only returned after midnight the night before, so he’d spent the day catching up on sleep and hadn’t even gotten out of bed until eleven.

He was nothing like Ryan, who had flown back to Capitol Planet overnight and still somehow managed to start his morning with a date.

Love truly made people irrational. As a single man, Bennie couldn’t begin to comprehend Ryan’s current behavior.

When they entered the house, Ava’s attention was immediately drawn to the cats scattered throughout the living room.

Four or five of them meowed around them.

One especially clingy cat rubbed itself against Bennie’s leg and trailed after him affectionately, while a plump cat lounged lazily atop a climbing structure. It briefly lifted its head to inspect the newcomers before promptly settling back down.

Ava took in the sight with admiration.

Each cat was stunning and obviously pampered with great care. Long-haired and short-haired breeds alike roamed the home, yet despite the number of cats, there was no unpleasant odor whatsoever. The entire house was immaculate.

“Mr. Franklin, you’re clearly a devoted cat lover,” Ava said sincerely. “They all look incredibly well cared

for.”

Bennie invited them to make themselves comfortable. He handed Ryan his favorite canned drink before politely asking, “Ms. Morren, what would you like?”

Ava glanced at Ryan’s drink. “I’ll have the same.”

Bennie promptly brought her an identical beverage.

“Ryan mentioned a few days ago that you were considering getting a cat,” Bennie said. “Have you ever raised one before, Ms. Morren?”

Ava shook her head with slight embarrassment. “Honestly, no. At the moment, I’m only taking care of two fish. But I’m willing to learn how to become a responsible cat owner.”
