Chapter 25
Andrea replied: [Got it.] The rat had already entered the tunnel. No more waiting. She pulled out the tracking care gotten the night before and used it.
A hologram appeared, showing the rat’s location and the full tunnel layout. Sure enough, there were over a dozen intersections between the two main tunnels.
Andrea chose the left tunnel, turned on her flashlight, and stepped inside. The tracking card lasted one hour. She p head straight for the rat.
But she had barely walked a hundred feet when she heard voices coming from the tunnel next door. She quickly tu her flashlight and pressed her back to the wall, moving slowly forward.
The soundproofing was terrible. There were probably holes in the wall that would let light through. If anyone spotte would ruin her plan.
Andrea got closer, and the voices became clearer. A high–pitched female voice whined. “Nelson, it’s so dark in here. I scared. Why did we even come?”
“We’re hunting treasure. I told you not to come, but you had to tag along.” The man’s voice was sharp with irritation.
“But your father told me to-” The woman’s voice was full of hurt, but the man cut her off roughly.
“Is there really treasure here? Don’t lie to me. I paid you 50 gold coins,” he yelled at someone else.
“Relax, sir. It’s here, I swear. My buddy dug this tunnel himself. I promise you’ll find something good,” someone answe
‘Someone’s selling inside information. Even the monsters have corrupt employees,‘ Andrea thought.
She kept her ears open and continued moving forward. Feeling her way in the dark was awkward, though. Suddenly, he hand touched something hard.
A system prompt popped up in her mind. [Foundation stone detected. Collect?]
“Yes!” Andrea confirmed immediately. Another system prompt popped up in her mind. [Obtained. Foundation Stone x2
She stared at the stones now sitting in her inventory. ‘I owe this dungeon an apology. Sorry I called you poor. You’re actu loaded.‘
She never expected to find something this valuable here. She was grinning to herself when screams and running footstep! erupted from the tunnel next door.
“What the hell? The tunnel is collapsing. Did you morons build this out of cardboard?” the man reared
“It’s your fault. You guys were digging around and messed up the structure,” the informant shot back
Their voices faded as they ran Andrea turned her flashlight back on Another system prompt had appeared just dow
She ran her fingers over two more black square stones in the wall. She wasnt sure if they belonged to her tunnel or the one
next door
A second later, she decided to take them anyway she thought. Who cares which side they re on! If I see them they re mine
No sooner had Andrea put the two foundation stones in her inventory than the tunnel behind her started to crumble She
broke into a sprint

Gwen and Jason messaged her at almost the exact same time.
Jason: (Hey, what the hell are you doing in there? The whole place is shaking. I can’t hold the rat back anymore. I
Andrea replied: (It’s fine. Get out of there now. It’s dangerous. It won’t get in anyway.]
Gwen: [I took care of the mutant wolves. But there are two tunnels inside. Which one should I take?)
Andrea replied: [Pick one. Doesn’t matter. Check the dividing walls for foundation stones. Grab every single one y
Andrea ran and scanned the walls for foundation stones, collecting every single one she saw.
The people next door were screaming nonstop. They had run for ages, and when they caught their breath, the ceil started falling again.
Earthquake someone shouted.
“We’re doomed!” another echoed.
Andrea felt a little bad. She was getting a workout from it, and now she was forcing everyone else to join in.
After about 40 minutes of running at full speed, Andrea’s legs felt like lead and her lungs burned. The rat was still so
distance behind her.
She pushed on a little longer, then drank her energy booster. She’d need all her strength for the fight ahead. The boo her instantly. Her eyes widened.
This stuff really works, she thought. Andrea felt light as a feather. Filled with energy, she picked up her pace. She was great, but the people next door were ready to die.
Amazingly, the whiny woman from earlier was now the one encouraging everyone. “Come on, guys! The exit’s just ahe few more steps. We’re almost there.”
After an hour and a half of running, Andrea had collected 30 foundation stones. She slowed down. The rat was very clo
now.
The people next door finally got a chance to rest and started arguing again.
Just dig a hole through the wall and we can get out. How long are we going to run in this stupid tunnel? the man snappe
“That’s a job for a professional rat,” the informant croaked, his voice raw from exhaustion.
Oh yeah? And what exactly is your profession?”
Chewing holes in players backpacks, obviously.”
Holy shit My backpack When did you do that? You’re a scammer I paid you, the man exploded
The informant shushed him “Something’s coming
The giant rat had arrived. Andrea glanced over her shoulder She thought. Perfect The tume behind me is compleichy blocked The tunnel next door is probably the same
Andrea gripped her long knife and got into position she set her flashlight on the ground she dihet care if the people next door saw the light now

The group next door was too preoccupied to notice anyway. Loud thudding footsteps echoed through the tunnel. rat came into view, holding a wooden box.
It was in her tunnel. Andrea tensed, ready to strike. But when it was about fifty feet away, the rat suddenly spotted h turned left into a connecting passage.
There was an intersection here. Andrea hadn’t expected that. She sprinted toward the intersection. Screams erupted
the other tunnel.
“What the hell is that!” someone yelled.
“Oh my God, is that a mutant rat?” another echoed.
“Help! Stay away from me,” someone else shouted.
Andrea ran through the intersection into the other tunnel. Three men and one woman were huddled in the corner, t
The giant rat tried to turn back, but Andrea threw a net and trapped it instantly. She was surprised how easy it was.
She thought, ‘Am I getting stronger?‘ She gave herself a light smack on the cheek. ‘Focus. Don’t get cocky.
Andrea dragged the rat to the side and held out her hand. From what she had overheard, these people had no idea thi was holding a key. They only thought there was treasure.
Andrea needed to grab the key before they figured it out. Unfortunately, they weren’t stupid. They caught on quickly
Now, seeing the rat trussed up and harmless, they brushed the dirt off their clothes and swaggered over.
“Hey. Who are you?” The leader, a guy with an obnoxious slicked–back hairdo, jutted his chin out. We saw this rat st
The smell of cheap hairspray made Andrea wrinkle her nose. ‘Impressive that he still bothers with this in a hungeon S thought.
The two lackeys, seeing him on the offensive, puffed out their chests and stepped in front of him. They looked each to if she didn’t hand over the rat.
Andrea scoffed. “Even if I gave it to you, could you actually hold it?” The two lackeys glanced at the strugg
nervous.
“Scum,” the trapped rat said suddenly.
