We Almost Had It But Let It S

Chapter 62

The ground was a mess, littered with broken facilities and items players had dropped in their panic.

Andrea rummaged through the debris, tossing anything useful into her backpack or turning it in for her

Anything she didn’t need, she put up on the Trading Post, hoping someone else might want it.

The other players watched as Andrea, covered in blood and with a blank expression, moved through the crowd. No one dared to say a word or ask any questions.

They silently made way for her, letting her scavenge in peace.

In the end, Andrea didn’t find anything really useful, but that wasn’t her main goal anyway.

What mattered was finishing her quest as soon as possible. She had to get the Sky Dome before the next wave of disaster hit.

She turned in a whole pile of items, and to her surprise, nine of them actually counted. Her quest was now at 49/50.

There was only one more to go.

The system was getting fussier about what counted as junk. It had the authority to decide what item was qualified. There was no point arguing with it.

Seeing everyone staring at her with curiosity, Andrea laughed it off, totally unfazed.

“My personal quirk. Don’t mind me!” Andrea said with a grin.

“It’s all good, do your thing,” someone replied.

No one dared to say anything else. They could only praise her for her sharp eye and unique taste.

Someone even chimed in, “You’re honestly the pride of all women!”

After the giant bear died, its flesh disappeared, leaving behind a set of white bones.

The skeleton landed right at the entrance, and honestly, it looked like a pretty stylish city gate.

The town chief walked in and out of the bear’s mouth a few times. “Yeah, I think this will do!”

Then he announced, “The bear’s gone, and there’s no one left to pay for fixing the gate. “I’ll apply for some funds to decorate these bear bones and make them the city gate.”

As he spoke, he glanced at Andrea, Gwen, and the man. “You three did great. Your names will be carved onto the renovated gate.

“From now on, whenever you enter Bird Town, you won’t need to show your ID.”

Andrea looked at the town chief.

She didn’t know if it was her imagination, but Andrea.

felt like he was seeing right through her disguise, like he could see the true

The last time she’d felt this way was when she met the supervisor at the Supply Station.

She realized she still hadn’t figured out all the rules about how NPC Triad Mode really worket

“Girl, what kind of snack did you give me?” Gwen called out suddenly.

Andrea thought, ‘Oh no, that’s not good.

How did I forget about that?

“Well, Andrea replied awkwardly, scratching her head.

She glanced at the bright red snack bag Gwen was handing over.

The words on it read: [Crispy Centipede Feet).

Andrea had totally forgotten that she’d handed Gwen a snack meant for monsters.

She’d wanted to help her wake up, but then it slipped her mind.

Luckily, Gwen probably couldn’t make out what was written on the bag anyway.

“It’s a new kind of spicy snack. I thought it was pretty special, so I saved it for you. Not bad, right?” Andrea vaid with a grin

“It tastes fine, but the way it looks, I can’t shake the feeling something’s off” Gwen said.

“Forget it, let’s head to the teleport point!” Andrea said.

Andrea pulled Gwen along, hurrying toward the teleport point.

There was hardly anyone left around.

[You have entered the teleport point. Teleportation will begin in 3 minutes.]

Andrea was speechless.

Andrea grumbled inwardly, ‘Seriously, I have to wait for another three minutes?

‘Why is the system being so slow today? Did they get swamped or something?

‘Guess I’ll wait it out’

She pulled up her holographic screen, figuring she might as well kill some time

She checked the Chat Channel. It was packed with players swapping stories about barely making it out alive.

As Andrea scrolled through, she noticed that most of the dungeons had pretty easy monsters.

Some even had little mini-games, like riddles or puzzles. Players breezed through them.

But if anyone failed, they were instantly eliminated.

The channel’s headcount had dropped again. There were only 57,563 players left.

Andrea figured this sudden burst of events was the system’s way of cutting down the numbers, prepping for the server

merge.

They called it a game event, but the ones dying were actual living people.

brutal and senseless. If they wanted to stick around, getting stronger was the only way.

before teleporting, the Chat Channel blew up messages were flying by nonstop.

noticed the number of mentions she was getting shot up exponentially, and guessed it was all about her

Doys channel was lighting up with red notifications.

ped into the Happy Days channel without hesitation.

Dominic Damn, Andrea, Gwen, you two are absolute beasts.

[That dude you teamed up with got style, but I don’t think he’s from our server. We’ve never talked before!]

Seeing Dominic’s message. Andrea finally relaxed. He’d sent her Defense Card back, so he must’ve figured something else

Andrex thought. As long as he’s still alive, that’s all that matters.

But what’s he even talking about?”

Scrolling down, she quickly figured it out.

Someone had posted a video of them taking down the giant bear in the Chat Channel.

Ir rotally blew up Chat Channel.

Telepon countdown begins. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.]

As the system notification chimed, Andrea blinked. Suddenly, she was back on the island.

Ar the same time, a system announcement popped up.

(Congratulations to Andrea Rowland from Server 10001, Gwen Spencer from Server 10001, and Travis Walsh from Server 1002 for being the first in the entire game to defeat a Tier 3 giant bear.

(Special rewards have been granted.

[Rewards have also been sent to players who helped defeat the giant bear.]

Chat Channel was filled with excited messages: [The reward is 500 gold coins!]

The system was generous this time, maybe to compensate for all the deaths.

Andrea didn’t expect the man to be Travis, whose construction ranking shot up like a rocket previously.

It was around & AM when Andrea got back to the island.

As soon as she appeared, Dustin and Scar, who had been waiting outside her bedroom door, instantly jumped to their feet and hurried over

Seeing Andrea covered in blood, they were both worried sick.

Now that she was finally back in a safe place, all the exhaustion she’d been holding back hit her at once.

Her minor scrapes and sore muscles started to throb.

She tossed Kiki to Dustin and patiently reassured her two Al companions.

Then she quickly washed off the blood, lay down on her bed, and was out like a light.

*****

When Andrea woke up in the morning, she could hear Kiki chirping nonstop outside her bedroom.

Andrea smacked her forehead and quickly opened the window to see what was going on.

‘I totally forgot he’s a living creature. Can he even handle this crazy weather?’ Andrea wondered.

But then she saw Kiki hopping around. He looked totally unfazed by the heat.

Andrea finally relaxed, letting out a sigh of relief.

Seeing that Andrea was up. Dustin came rushing in with breakfast.

Scar nuzzled up against her leg, rubbing so much it nearly wore a hole in her pants.

Andrea couldn’t help but wonder who on earth programmed Scar to act this real.

But honestly, it was pretty adorable, which made things even more frustrating.

Then Scar plopped down, stretched out its front paws, and morphed them into two claw-shaped massage hammers.

Scar started gently thumping her legs with its paw-shaped massage hammers. The pressure was just right.

Andrea stretched out her long legs, eating her egg custard.

Honestly, life felt pretty relaxing right now.

Suddenly, Kiki poked his head in. “Boss, your island is awesome. I knew you weren’t that old man Orion. His cooking is awful, but your soup is amazing!”

Kiki chirped, scampering over to Dustin, “But Dustin’s food is the absolute best!”

Andrea thought, ‘Good, looks like he’s already made himself at home.

‘This little bird really knows how to charm everyone.

With skills like that, he’ll never have to worry about missing a meal.

‘How could Orion’s cooking taste bad? Isn’t he supposed to be a pro chef?

“That doesn’t make sense.

Then Kiki let out a satisfied burp. “I had a whole pot of seafood soup for breakfast, plus ten apples, eight oranges, five peaches, a box of pan-fried salmon, and a huge lobster. I’m so stuffed!”

Andrea was speechless.
