Chapter 9 The Horn Beast

‘They had nothing better to do all day than spam the chat channel, huh…’ Andrea thought.

She clicked on the profile of the person who kept adding everyone as friends in the daily chat channel.

[Name: Dominic Carver

[Age: 22

[Gender: Male

[Bio: Add me, let’s chat!]

He was definitely a chatterbox.

Andrea scrolled way up through the messages until she didn’t see their names anymore.

[I got 5 copper coins. No idea what they’re for.]

[Copper coins? Let me check which dynasty. I’ll appraise them for you. If you ever take them back to the real world, you might get rich!]

[Just copper coins, not those valuable ancient coins…]

[I got some silver coins. Probably worth more than yours. 10,000 copper coins equals 100 silver coins equals 1 gold coin.]

Denice: [Gold coins x6. Is this what you’re talking about?]

[Wow, where’d you get so many gold coins?]

Denice: [I’ve been getting them from crates since yesterday.]

[You are seriously lucky.]

[Can I have one? Please…]

Denice: [I can share other stuff, but not money.]

Andrea smirked. ‘So this girl had some principles after all,’ she thought.

A bunch of people kept begging, but they ended up blocked.

Andrea had to admit Denice’s luck was insane.

Back then, Andrea’d worked her butt off all day just to get ten gold coins. But this girl just opened a few crates and casually got six.

Good thing she had that Reforge skill, or she’d be way behind from the start.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the fishing rod start to wiggle again.

She quickly reeled in another crate and kept scrolling.

Soon she spotted another familiar name.

Gwen: [Trading a long knife for toiletries.]

Andrea clicked on the long knife’s stats: three feet long, lightweight, sharp, pretty perfect for her.

She had a ranged weapon now, but she still needed something for close combat.

She messaged Gwen privately.

Andrea: [One toothbrush, one tube of toothpaste, one towel for your long knife.]

She happened to have three sets of those.

Gwen: [Deal.]

The other side immediately sent the trade request.

Andrea put her items up, completed the trade, and took the long knife.

It was light enough for someone who wasn’t super strong like her.

She’d been spending two hours a day paddling, plus morning and evening workouts.

Her constitution and strength had both gone up by one point. That discovery made Andrea feel like there was hope after all.

She’d thought the only way to get stronger was to use upgrade cards.

Turned out hard work could pay off, too.

Just then, another message came from Gwen.

Gwen: [I’ve got fifty arrows here. You might find them useful. Take a look: Poisoned Arrows.]

Andrea quickly opened the item info.

Same shape as her iron arrows, but these were highly poisonous. Small monsters would die within three seconds of being hit.

It was a jackpot!

Her original fifty arrows wouldn’t last long for someone with zero archery experience.

With these extra fifty, she had another safety net.

Andrea: [I’ll take them. What do you want in exchange?]

Gwen: [Do you have salt? I need some water and some salt.]

Andrea: [Deal.]

Having just fished up another iron crate, she opened both crates together.

[Opened Basic Wooden Chest. Got: 1 carton of milk, 12 packs of spicy noodles.]

[Opened iron supply chest. Got: 1 gold coin, 1 solar power storage unit, 11 lbs of steak.]

‘Wow, huge haul!’ she exclaimed inwardly.

Only two crates today, but the loot was pretty solid.

The milk came in little 8.5 oz cartons—24 in total.

The pasta was tasty, but eating it here was a bit risky—what if she got an upset stomach?

She’d just use them as sauce instead.

As someone who loved spicy food, Andrea felt like life just got a little more fun.

The power storage unit was about 8 inches by 8 inches by 12 inches.

It had a foldable solar panel on top and a bunch of plug sockets on the side. Two-prong, three-prong, and USB ports—plenty for all kinds of devices.

It just didn’t say how much power it could hold.

Looking at all those sockets, she figured it couldn’t be too small.

But since it came from the system, she couldn’t judge it by normal standards. Only trying it out would tell.

The steak looked of high quality, meaty and juicy.

She put the storage unit on the roof, unfolded the solar panel, and let it soak up the sun.

The battery was at zero percent, but a little arrow was slowly creeping up, showing it was charging.

Humming a little tune, Andrea climbed down from the roof and got back to fishing for trash.

Nothing for a while.

Then, she nailed a wooden plank to the wall to practice archery.

The distance was too short to actually learn anything, but at least she could get a feel for the weapon.

Around five o’clock, a system notification suddenly popped up.

[Congratulations! Your mileage has reached 300 miles, triggering a supply station. Arriving in 1 minute. Please prepare to dock.]
