“Even if you didn’t see it, you should’ve called home. Kirsten
knows.”
With that, Madeleine took out her phone.
“I can’t believe we aren’t friends on WhatsApp. Come on. Let’s
friend each other.”
Roderick didn’t take out his phone. He took her phone and
moved his account out of the blocklist.
Madeleine was reduced to silence.
How embarrassing.
It turned out she’d blocked his account.
The awkwardness was such that Madeleine had to change the
subject. “I’m taking Kev out to shop for clothes later. We’re
watching the performance at the theater tonight. Will you join
us?”
Before Roderick could answer, she said with a frown, “No, you
can’t come.”
Chapter 14
Roderick pulled a long face.
“Why not? Are you afraid I’ll destroy your date with Edward?”
“What does it have to do with Edward? Ricki, what’s wrong with
you? The tickets have sold out.”
She showed it to him on her phone.
“I waited to grab tickets as soon as I learned the news. Luckily, I
made it. But the seats are in the back. I wonder if we can see
the performance clearly.”
Her disappointment didn’t seem fake. After a moment of
contemplation, Roderick dialed a number.
He spoke the foreign language fluently. His pronunciation was
good. Madeleine listened carefully and understood that he was
asking the person on the other end of the line to get three VIP
tickets to Annabelle’s performance.
Upon hearing an affirmative reply, Roderick expressed his
gratitude and hung up.
When he raised his head, Madeleine was looking at him with
admiration.
Chapter 14
“Ricki, don’t tell me you’ve obtained VIP tickets to Annabelle’s performance?”
Roderick put away his phone and turned to her nonchalantly.
What was the big deal? She knew how wealthy and well- connected he was now.
But her eyes were bright with expectations. Not having the heart to undermine her enthusiasm, he nodded.
“Yippee!”
Madeleine jumped and hugged him ecstatically.
“Awesome, Ricki! Next time your dad kicks your ass, tell him you’re my dude. I’ll take the beating for you.”
What?
Why did he feel this woman wasn’t his wife but his buddy?
Roderick placed his hands on the shoulders of Madeleine, who
was jumping like a spring, and asked, “Did you…really lose your
memory?”
At first, Roderick didn’t believe a word of it.
Everyone knew how Madeleine had tormented him and the

people around her.
But her actions in the past two days couldn’t have been a
pretense.
There was still no affection for him in her eyes.
But the disgust was gone.
At least, she didn’t hate him anymore. Now, she was as perky
and exuberant as when she was a teenager.
Roderick had to accept it. She might really have suffered
memory loss.
“Look at me.” Madeleine stared at him. “Look me in the eye. Does it look like I’m lying?”
For crying out loud! How she was being wronged! Those horrible things were the doing of the twenty–something Madeleine. It had nothing to do with the 18–year–old Madeleine.
Roderick looked her in the eye for a moment before saying, “I’ll take you to the hospital for a check–up when we get back.”
No one lost their memory for no reason. Something must’ve caused it.
Chapter 14
Madeleine agreed. What if she wasn’t possessed but was sick?
A check–up was just in case.
Before they left the room, Roderick made a phone call on the
balcony.
The line was connected soon.
A soft female voice answered. “Mr. Livingston? You’re calling
me so early. What’s up?”
Roderick looked at his watch and apologized, “Sorry, Dr. Clark. I forgot it’s only 7 a.m. at home.”
