Chapter 186
For him, it didn’t matter where they ate. Even the most fun
places didn’t interest him much.
But…
If he was going with his mom, that was different.
“Does Kev know about those kinds of restaurants?”
“I do.”
The little guy nodded firmly and answered seriously, “The kids
at preschool told me about them.”
“Oh…”
Hearing this, Madeleine’s heart inexplicably ached.
The thought that she had probably rarely, or perhaps never,
taken her son to a place like that, forcing him to just listen to
other kids talk about it with an envious look on his face.
Madeleine felt a tightness in her chest.
Chapter 186
She sniffled. “Kev, if you like it, how about Mommy spends
more time with you from now on?”
“Really?”
“Really.”
Madeleine held out her pinky. “Let’s pinky promise.”
A smile touched Kevin’s lips, and he immediately hooked his
little finger with hers. He loved this feeling.
The feeling of making a promise with his mom.
The car pulled up to the family–friendly restaurant, and
Madeleine glanced at the time.
It was three minutes before her meeting time with Roderick.
She was about to go in first when the driver said, “He’s here.”
She rolled down the window and saw that Roderick’s car had
indeed arrived.
“Right on time, Mr. Livingston.”
Just as she said that, Madeleine noticed Roderick was holding
a bouquet of flowers as he got out of the car.
Chapter 186
A blue–themed bouquet that complemented the color of her
clothes.
“Hey, how did you know what color I’d be wearing?”
“Great minds think alike.”
Roderick walked over with a smile, handed the flowers to
Madeleine, and then leaned in to give her a kiss.
Madeleine’s face immediately flushed, and she quickly turned
to look at her son behind her.
What’s with this guy? Why does he have to kiss me every time
he gives me flowers?
She turned and saw that her son’s expression was, as expected,
a little resentful…
Madeleine frowned slightly. Thinking about how her son already
had some emotional detachment, she irritably hit Roderick’s
shoulder.
“You didn’t think to get a gift for our son, did you?”
“Of course I did.”
Roderick said, pulling a small teddy bear from his other hand

like a magic trick.
It wasn’t big, just palm–sized, and didn’t look particularly special.
“Kevin.”
Roderick waved him over, and the little guy walked up, looking
up at him.
“This is for you.”
“Thank you, Daddy.”
Kevin took it and started playing with it, his head bowed.
From where Madeleine was standing, just as her son took the
bear, she caught a glimpse of the embroidered letters on the
back of its clothes…
Wait a minute.
She looked down again at the wrapping paper on the flowers in
her hand, and her face fell.
Madeleine leaned in, annoyed, speaking in a voice only Roderick
could hear.
“Was this bear a free gift with the flowers?”
Chapter 186
“Yeah.”
Roderick answered with total confidence.
So what if it was free? It’s still a gift, isn’t it?
Remembering to grab a little bear for his son while buying a gift
for his wife was already pretty damn good, okay.
Madeleine put a hand to her forehead.
Why did she suddenly feel a little sorry for her son?
But the little guy didn’t seem to mind; he was just excited about
having a nice meal with his mom and dad.
“Let’s go, Kev. Mommy ordered a little cake for you, I know
you’ll love it.”
“Thanks, Mommy!”
The family–friendly restaurant was located in the revolving
restaurant on the top floor of a downtown building, the entire
space decorated like an enchanted fairytale forest.
The entrance had twinkling star lights and a giant mushroom
archway, with waiters in mascot costumes handing out
