Waking up with my nemesis baby novel Chapter 30

Chapter 30

Madeleine nodded numbly, her thoughts a tangled mess.

She retreated to her room, sinking onto the bed and staring

blankly at the ceiling.

She’d been naive, thinking she could fix everything so easily.

Now, a darker thought crept in: maybe the only way to protect

Kevin from her past self was to leave, to divorce Roderick and

walk away for good.

Her heart twisted, a chaotic whirl of guilt and fear.

As a child, she’d always dreamed of growing up. Now, she

longed for the simplicity of those days.

Roderick stepped into Kevin’s room, clutching the drawing his

son had made earlier.

Daddy!

Kevin called, pausing as he tidied his bookshelf.

His small face lit up with concern. Where’s Mommy?

She’s in her room,Roderick said.

He walked over and said, I need to ask you something.

He set the drawing on the desk, pointing to the woman, and

asked, “Is this Dr. Clark?

Kevin tilted his head, puzzled.

No, that’s Mommy.

Roderick’s stern expression softened, a flicker of relief in his

eyes.

And the ones you drew before?

Kevin’s gaze dropped, his little brows knitting together. He

twisted the edge of his shirt, unsure how to answer.

Roderick’s heart clenched. He understood instantly.

Your mom knows about those other drawings, Kevin. She’s

really hurt.

What?

Chapter 30

Kevin’s head shot up, his eyes wide with panic.

Tears welled up, his small hands fidgeting nervously as he bit

his lip.

The thought of his mother being upset because of himof her

maybe not loving him anymoresent a wave of fear through his tiny frame.

Roderick’s brow furrowed as he studied his son.

What does Dr. Clark talk to you about during your sessions?

he asked, his voice low and measured.

Kevin blinked up at him, confusion clouding his small face.

After a moment, he shook his head.

Dr. Clark says it’s a secret.”

Roderick’s lips pressed into a tight line, but he didn’t push.

Kevin was a stickler for rulesonce he’d promised something,

there was no budging him.

Nanette had made it clear from the start that therapy was confidential, even from parents.

Chapter 30

Roderick considered this for a moment before softening his

tone.

Do you still want to see Dr. Clark?

Kevin hesitated. “If I keep seeing Dr. Clarkwill I still get to see

Mommy?he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Yes, you’ll still see Mommy,Roderick assured him.

Kevin bit his lip, then murmured, I want to keep seeing her.”

There was something about Nanette that tugged at Kevin’s

heart. He couldn’t put it into words, but Roderick understood.

Nanette had filled a void, offering the warmth and care Kevin

had craved from his mother.

Even now, with his wounds still raw, Kevin clung to that

connection.

Alright,” Roderick said, reaching out to ruffle Kevin’s hair gently.

He felt maybe he was overthinking things. Nanette’s confrontation with Madeleine could have come from genuine concern for Kevin’s wellbeing.

But one thing was certain: Roderick wouldn’t let it happen

again.

Daddy,” Kevin said, his eyes still shimmering with unshed tears.

Can I go see Mommy?

Of course,Roderick replied.

Willwill Mommy stop liking me?Kevin’s voice trembled,

heavy with worry.

Roderick’s mind drifted, caught in a memory, before he snapped

back to the present.

No, she won’t. Go on, buddy.

Even with his father’s reassurance, Kevin’s steps were hesitant.

Clutching his drawing tightly, he left the room, his little heart still

heavy with doubt.

Madeleine lay sprawled on her bed, lost in thought, when a soft

knock broke the silence.

Come in,she called.

She propped herself up and saw Kevin peeking around the door,

his small face cautious.

Hey, sweetheart!
