Chapter 321
Adrian watched the colorful play of emotions on her face, the
amusement in his eyes deepening.
He gave her fingers a gentle squeeze, then sat up straight again
and started the car smoothly.
“Settle in. We’re going home.”
His voice was still gentle, but it now held a reassuring, steady
strength.
The car merged back into traffic, but the atmosphere inside had
quietly shifted.
The unnerving awkwardness and silence were replaced by a
warm, intimate understanding.
Rebecca no longer looked out the window, instead stealing
glances at Adrian’s profile as he focused on driving.
Her heart was still beating fast.
The car drove into the underground garage and came to a stop.
Chapter 321
After they got out of the car, Adrian kept holding Rebecca’s hand, making small talk as if to ease her nervousness.
In fact, Rebecca was still nervous.
When she got upstairs, she realized she had left her phone in Adrian’s car.
“Huh?”
She froze for a moment, stopped, and rummaged through her
small purse again. “I think my phone is missing.”
Adrian turned his head to look at her. “Did you leave it in the
‘Probably…”
Rebecca thought back. Most likely, she had been so focused on
talking to him when she got out that she’d left it on the
passenger seat without thinking.
“Tsk, my memory.”
Adrian watched her frown slightly, a helpless yet fond smile on his face. He reached out and ruffled the top of her hair. “It’s
okay, I’ll go down and get it. You rest for a bit.”
Chapter 321
“Okay.”
The apartment was quiet, with only her inside.
She changed her shoes, walked to the living room to pour a glass of water, and sipped it slowly. Her thoughts drifted to
what she needed to talk to Adrian about.
About Leo, about that unexpected box of old things.
She had to figure out the right way to bring it up–to be clear
without making it seem like she was too hung up on the past
and causing Adrian to misunderstand.
As she was pondering, the doorbell rang with a “ding–dong.”
Rebecca was taken aback and instinctively glanced at the wall
clock.
That was fast.
Adrian had only been gone for less than two minutes, right?
Even if the elevator was quick, a round trip couldn’t be that fast.
“Coming, coming!”
She thought Adrian had forgotten his keys or something, so she

called out as she put down her water glass and hurried to the
entryway.
She peeked through the peephole. The hallway was brightly lit,
but the person standing outside wasn’t Adrian.
It was a strange woman she had never seen before.
The woman wore an expensive custom–made suit, her makeup
was flawless, and her competent demeanor carried a hint of
unapproachable, cold pride.
She stood there, not in a hurry, but with a kind of scrutinizing
patience.
Rebecca’s heart skipped a beat, and confusion instantly
flooded her mind.
Who?
Wrong door?
She hesitated for a moment before opening the door, but only a
crack, looking warily at the woman outside. “Hello, who are you looking for?”
The woman outside didn’t seem surprised to see Rebecca.
Chapter 321
Her gaze swept over Rebecca quickly and sharply, from her
house slippers to her casually tied–up hair. A faint, almost
imperceptible flicker of disdain crossed her eyes, but it was
quickly masked by a perfectly polite smile.
“Excuse me, is this Professor Adrian’s home?”
The woman’s voice was also pleasant, her enunciation perfect,
carrying a well–trained elegance.
Rebecca’s confusion deepened. She nodded. “Yes, and you
are?”
The woman smiled faintly. “Hello, my last name is Vance.
