Chapter 35
Madeleine took Kevin’s hand, then turned and called Roderick.
Only when she directed her attention his way did the motionless
man finally stand.
Madeleine thought to herself, “He only moved when given a
direct command.”
In the car, Kevin clung to his mother’s hand, refusing to let go even as his palm grew damp.
His eyes sparkled with unconcealed excitement.
He could hardly believe his mom was taking him to
kindergarten!
He’d show all those kids who said he had no mother.
He not only had a mother, but she was also as beautiful as
Snow White.
The car soon stopped outside the kindergarten.
Rosebud Kindergarten, which Kevin attended, was the most

prestigious in Valenburg, renowned not just for its location and
facilities but for its exceptional educational resources.
Several teachers of various nationalities stood at the gate,
greeting the children.
Madeleine was impressed.
She thought she’d had a privileged upbringing.
Now she realized her perspective had been limited. Or rather,
her imagination had been constrained by a simpler life.
“Go by yourself,” Roderick said firmly, stopping Madeleine from
exiting.
“Your mother needs to get to the hospital.”
“Ah…”
Kevin looked up, clear disappointment in his eyes.
He’d planned the whole trip to linger at the gate with his mother
so all his friends could see.
He bit his lip, one hand still on the car door, reluctant.
“Be good, sweetie. I’ll walk you all the way to the gate tomorrow,

I promise.”
“Okay.”
Kevin nodded. He was a reasonable boy.
He understood his father was right. His mother needed to get
to the hospital quickly.
Besides, they had pinky–sworn yesterday. She would take him to
school every day.
“Well, bye, Mommy.”
“Bye, Kev.”
After getting out, Kevin remembered he hadn’t said goodbye to
Roderick. His previously warm tone cooled noticeably.
“Bye, Daddy.”
“Mm.”
Roderick noted the difference but didn’t take offense.
Madeleine gave birth to the child. He had no reason to compete
for the boy’s affection.
They watched Kevin enter the kindergarten before Roderick

directed the driver to Rivermont General Hospital.
During the drive, Roderick opened his laptop to work. He
appeared busy, his brow furrowed in clear agitation.
Madeleine stole glances at him from the corner of her eye.
If the boy from eight years ago could see this now, he’d never
believe this stern, imposing CEO was himself.
The current Roderick was handsome, certainly, but he lacked a
certain human warmth.
The old Roderick had been irritating, but he was always eager to
talk to her, their conversations endless and wildly imaginative.
But now, he only spoke when necessary, his face perpetually
stern.
Madeleine rubbed her chin.
So it was true that men matured overnight once they had a
family and children.
They arrived at the hospital.
Roderick led Madeleine to the neurology department on the third floor of the outpatient building.
Chapter 35
Still mentally a teenager, Madeleine instinctively adopted a respectful demeanor upon seeing the doctor.
But when she clearly saw the man in the white coat, her respect
morphed into pure shock.
Her mouth fell open, no sound emerging for a long moment.
“B–Bradley!?”
Bradley Kline’s lips curved into his signature, mischievous
childhood grin.
“Stuttering? Stuttering isn’t really our department’s area.”
Madeleine stared at Bradley, then turned to look at Roderick.
“Don’t tell me that dropout who failed every test became a
doctor!?”
Roderick pressed his lips together and nodded. “Yes.”
“You must be joking!” Madeleine clutched her head. “Is the
medical field that desperate now? Can just anyone become a
doctor? And a neurologist? Treating brains? Isn’t that ironic that
someone with mental issues is treating brains?!”
Bradley’s face instantly clouded over.
