Chapter 58
She even managed to turn and check on Kevin’s reaction. The
little guy was scared at first, but then he got more and more excited and started screaming at the top of his lungs.
Madeleine glanced again at Roderick next to her son. He still didn’t seem to be reacting.
When the ride was over, everyone was excitedly talking about it, especially Kevin, whose eyes were sparkling with joy.
“Wasn’t that fun? This is Mommy’s favorite ride. Aw, it’s a
shame you’re still too little to go on the giant pendulum with
me.”
“When I’m bigger, I can go with you! Mommy, you can ask
Daddy to go with you.”
Roderick?
Madeleine looked at Roderick standing beside them and
noticed his face was much paler than before.
He hadn’t said a word since getting off, and his forehead was
covered in tiny beads of sweat.
Chapter 58
“Ricki, are you okay?”
“I’m fine.”
Roderick said calmly.
Is he really fine?
Madeleine stared at him for a moment. He seemed a bit off.
“Wait for me.”
Leaving the father and son to stand aside, Madeleine went
across the way to buy a few bottles of water.
“Here, have some water to calm down.”
Roderick took it, twisted the cap of the water bottle, and
frowned.
“Can’t open it?”
Madeleine took it, puzzled, opened it with a light twist, and
handed it back to Roderick.
Roderick didn’t speak. He took it, but his hand was shaking so
much he couldn’t bring it to his lips.
Chapter 58
“I’m not drinking it.”
Roderick handed the water bottle back to Madeleine, his voice
low and a little frightening.
Madeleine held the water, silent for a long moment, before
reaching out and taking Roderick’s hand.
“Ricki, are you scared?”
Madeleine’s voice was very soft, as gentle as when she usually
talked to Kevin.
Hearing her, Roderick said nothing, just lifted his gaze to look at
Madeleine.
“If you’re scared, why did you ride it? Gosh, I never said you had
to join in. Why did you have to act tough?”
As she spoke, Madeleine tucked the water bottle under her arm and squeezed the Hegu acupressure point on Roderick’s hand.
Roderick frowned, looking down at what she was doing,
confused.
“What are you doing?”
“This helps to relieve it. Don’t talk right now, just take big, deep

breaths.”
Roderick obediently remained silent.
After a while, the feeling of his heart racing subsided quite a bit,
and he finally explained:
“It’s nothing serious, just a physiological fear response.”
Madeleine nodded, her long, curled lashes trembling.
“Madeleine?”
Roderick felt her reaction wasn’t quite right. He lowered his
head and softly called her name.
Madeleine looked up then, watching Roderick as she said
guiltily, “I should have stopped you. I knew you never ride roller
coasters.”
“I’m fine.”
Roderick smiled, and after a moment of silence, he said, “You
still remember that.”
“Of course. When we were kids, you rode the Ferris wheel once.
When you got off, your face was pale and you couldn’t even
walk straight. I even made fun of you at first, but later the

doctor said it could be life–threatening.”
As she spoke, Madeleine stuck out her tongue, feeling
apologetic for being so young and thoughtless back then.
Roderick was in a bit of a daze. He still remembered that day.
When you’re a kid, your pride is at its peak. He didn’t want to be
the odd one out, so he forced himself onto the Ferris wheel
despite feeling sick.
He never expected that he still wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Afterwards, seeing Madeleine laugh at him, he felt hurt for a
very long time.
