Chapter 59
She suppressed her racing heart and quickly looked down at
her son.
“Ice cream…”
“You can’t have any.”
Roderick cut him off bluntly, his eyes full of displeasure.
That little brat. He’s doing it on purpose.
Madeleine was about to say that since they were at the
happiest place on earth, having some ice cream wouldn’t be a
big deal.
But Roderick mentioned that the boy’s stomach wasn’t very
good, and he couldn’t eat too much cold food.
Madeleine could only shrug, “Well, I guess there’s no helping it.
On this one, Mommy has to side with Daddy.”
Kevin pouted and crossed his arms, “Fine, fine. Daddy and
Mommy are partners in rhyme.”
Chapter 59
Madeleine: ?
Roderick: “I think he meant to say ‘partners in crime‘.”
Madeleine: …
This kid reads too many books, and a bit of everything, I guess.
Considering Roderick’s health, Madeleine planned to do some
gentler activities next to improve their family bond.
“Go, go, go, the next ride is the bumper cars!”
Madeleine excitedly pulled her son and Roderick’s arms toward
another area, and as she looked around for directions, her gaze
was caught by a vaguely familiar figure.
She stopped to get a closer look, but the figure flashed by and
was gone.
“What’s wrong?”
Roderick looked in the direction she was facing, but all he saw
was the crowd.
Madeleine frowned and shook her head, “It’s nothing. I must
have been mistaken.”
Chapter 59
I must have been mistaken.
She thought she saw Edward Carroll, how is that possible
Roderick was still worried, so he looked up a few more times.
“Let’s go, I must have seen the wrong person. Let’s hurry up
and go play bumper cars.”
The bumper cars only allowed two people per car, so Madeleine
asked Kevin who he wanted to ride with.
This was a big problem for the little guy.
He looked very conflicted, his brow furrowed, and he hesitated
for a while.
If he chose Mommy, would Daddy be sad?
After all, Daddy usually doted on him and took such good care
of him, and Daddy had just ridden the roller coaster with him.
But he really wanted to be with Mommy…
Kevin’s brow was knitted into a tight knot.
After a moment, he suddenly said something surprising: “Daddy
and Mommy can ride together.”
Chapter 59
“Huh?”
Madeleine looked confused and instinctively glanced at
Roderick, wanting to see if he knew what the little guy was
thinking.
Roderick raised an eyebrow, guessing.
Could it be that his son knew he had just interrupted them and
was intentionally creating an opportunity for him?
Madeleine bent down and asked, “What about you, then?
Little kids can’t play by themselves, you know.”
“Then… then I won’t play.”
Madeleine tilted her head, seeing his dilemma.
“Kev, is it that you don’t know whether to choose Daddy or
Mommy?”
After hearing that, Roderick’s gaze fell on Madeleine. He hadn’t
even thought of that.
Seeing his son nod seriously, Roderick felt a complicated
emotion he couldn’t quite name.
Chapter 59
In the past few years, because of the absence of Madeleine’s
motherly love, Roderick had been especially concerned with his
child’s development.
Even though his work was demanding, he always made time to
be with and take care of his son. He considered himself a good
father–attentive and understanding of his child’s emotions.
But sometimes, he had to admit that a child still needed to
connect with their mother. After all, it was a bond of blood and
emotion maintained through the umbilical cord, something that
even he, the biological father, couldn’t replace.
When Madeleine learned the reason, she smiled reassuringly
