Chapter 101
Clara was on her way to Anderson Industries when she received Margaret’s call.
The phone rang, interrupting the navigation, and she subconsciously pressed the answer button.
“Clara, Lucas is in the hospital. Can you come see him?”
Hearing Margaret’s voice, Clara raised an eyebrow.“What did the doctor say?”
“The doctor said it’s a genetic disease he was born with.”
Margaret’s anxious voice came through the noisy background,“He was feeling a bit unwell when he woke up this morning. We took his temperature, and he had a slight fever, so I brought him to the hospital.”
“But by the time we got to the hospital, the low fever had turned into a high fever, and he’s fallen into a coma.”
Clara paused, her hand on the steering wheel, a look of mockery on her face.
She knew that Ethan and Lucas had inherited a mutated gene that could cause them to fall ill at any
time.
But her divorce case with Ethan wasn’t even over. She’d just presented evidence that Ethan had tricked her into being a surrogate, and
now Lucas was sick?
The timing was too convenient.
“What did the doctors say? Have they come up with a treatment plan?”
Clara deliberately slowed her speech, her tone devoid of any concern.“I’m a little busy today. I’ll visit him at the hospital when I have
time.”
She wanted to see what kind of game they were playing.
But not right now.
“Clara, do you even have a heart?”
Margaret couldn’t detect any worry for Lucas in Clara’s voice. She paused, then grew agitated.
“That’s your son! He’s lying in a hospital bed, and you’re still thinking about work? Even if you’re determined to divorce Ethan, you can’t just abandon your child to die!”
She had hoped to lure Clara to the hospital first, then let her witness Lucas’s pitiful state, have Lucas beg her, and then she would step in to persuade her to agree to have another child to save Lucas.
But she didn’t expect that Clara wouldn’t rush to the hospital immediately!
At this rate, wasn’t Lucas’s suffering through a night in the cold all for nothing?
Clara winced at Margaret’s shrill voice filling the car, turning the volume down slightly. “He’s got doctors around him. He’ll be fine for the moment. Gotta go.”
She hung up before Margaret could say another word.
Margaret stared at her phone for a couple of seconds, the dial tone throbbing in her ear. Clara was really getting on her nerves! She quickly dialed Ethan’s number.

“Hello?”

Ethan’s deep voice came through the speaker. Before he could say anything else, Margaret unloaded everything that had just happened, along with a litany of complaints about Clara.
She finished with, “Eth, you can’t be stupid and divorce Clara.”
“If the court rules you two should divorce, it’ll only prove that the evidence Clara has is real. If that gets out, the Carter Group will
suffer.”
“And Luke is waiting for you and her to have another child to save his life!”
“Of course, I won’t divorce her.”
Ethan sat behind his desk, reaching for a cigarette, lighting it as his eyes scanned the tablet in his hand.
He was looking at the trending topic about Clara pushing Emma, along with all the comments.
“Looks like Clara is getting out of hand. Now she doesn’t even care about Luke.”
“Don’t you dare do something stupid. This child isn’t just for saving Luke; it’s for saving you too. No matter what, you need to get her pregnant as soon as possible.”
Ethan Carter glanced out the window at the towering skyscrapers, his voice deep, “I know.”
Seeing him hang up, David Wilson watched Ethan’s face and spoke cautiously.
“Sir, the recent publicity isn’t good for Ms. Bennett. Should I have the PR department handle it?”
“Anderson Industries‘ stock prices are plummeting. The shareholders are in an uproar, and I’ve heard that the Bennett family is also planning to acquire Anderson Industries. She probably can’t handle it all alone.”
A smirk played on Ethan’s lips as he exhaled smoke, speaking through the haze.
“No, I’ll wait for her to come begging me.”
He leaned back in his chair, his gaze returning to the screen. He wanted her to know that only the Carter family could be her support. Without the Carter family, she couldn’t do anything.
David observed Ethan’s expression, opened his mouth, but ultimately said nothing, silently retreating.
Knowing that the shareholders were demanding a meeting, Clara would come. Figuring out the time, Luke waited downstairs at Anderson Industries.
Seeing Clara’s car stop, he hurried to meet her.
“Ms. Bennett.”
“Yeah.”
Clara Bennett stepped out of the car, glancing at Aaron Hayes, who clearly hadn’t gotten much rest. “Thanks for your hard work. Once this is over, make sure you take a few days to relax.”
“Besides the shareholders, who else is here?”
Aaron Hayes smiled wearily.“It’s no trouble at all.”

After all, Clara’s salary and benefits were far better than anything he could get elsewhere, and she focused solely on results, saving him a
lot of headaches.
“Upstairs, waiting to buy up shares, besides Aaron Hayes, who I brought in, there’s another person, who specializes in investments.”
“Also, Victor Bennett is here.”
Aaron Hayes reported the situation conscientiously, “Victor just spoke with the shareholders. He assured them that if he successfully acquires Anderson Industries, he won’t touch their shares.”
“When you go up there, the shareholders will probably…”
She understood what he meant without him finishing the sentence. Allowing the Bennett Group to acquire Anderson Industries while keeping their shares was undoubtedly more appealing to them than giving up their shares.
When she went upstairs, she would likely face a barrage of complaints and accusations from the shareholders.
Victor and Richard Bennett really had it all figured out, using the shareholders to pressure her. This way, even if she disagreed, she couldn’t stop them from acquiring Anderson Industries.
They were being far too optimistic. Her grandfather had foreseen this possibility and stipulated in the initial company charter that the legal representative held absolute decision–making power in company transfers.
This was also why, after her mother’s passing, the carefully prepared will insisted on making her the legal representative. It was likely one of the reasons her maternal uncle’s family was so keen to control her.
That explained the shareholders‘ eagerness to convene a shareholder meeting.
“What about the other person? Do they also want to acquire Anderson Industries?”
Clara pushed open the glass door and walked into Anderson Industries, with Noah following her into the elevator.
“No, he only wants to acquire shares.”
A flicker of doubt crossed Clara’s eyes.
Only wants to acquire shares?
That’s no different from injecting capital into Anderson Industries.
With Mason Walker blacklisting Anderson Industries, who would risk offending him to do that?
Who was helping her from behind the scenes?
“Find out who’s behind him.”
“I’ve already sent someone to investigate.”
Noah’s response was very satisfying to Clara.
The elevator reached the top floor and slowly opened. The door to the top–floor conference room was ajar, and the sound of arguing could be faintly heard from inside. Noah followed closely behind her, the company’s articles of association in the file folder he carried. Clara pushed open the door to the conference room, immediately met with a barrage of angry and questioning stares.
The shareholders were seated on one side of the conference table, their faces ashen. Victor Bennett was looking at Clara with undisguised glee.

Two men sat beside him, who Clara guessed were Aaron Hayes and Evan Taylor.
“Clara! You finally made it!”
Menu
Ryan Clark, sitting in the front row, slammed his hand on the table.“The internet is exploding with news about you pushing Emma Anderson, causing her to miscarry. Anderson Industries‘ stock has plummeted 23%, wiping out nearly a billion dollars in market value!
You owe us an explanation!”
“Exactly! Look at the comments online; they’re all bashing Anderson Industries! Our shares are practically worthless!”
Julian Lee chimed in, slamming his tablet onto the table for emphasis, the screen displaying a torrent of angry comments.
“I was against you becoming CEO from the start. If Robert hadn’t been managing the company all these years, Anderson Industries would have collapsed long ago.”
“If you can’t give us a satisfactory explanation, just sell off Anderson Industries. Otherwise, bring Robert back as CEO.”
Hearing Robert’s name, Clara smirked. Robert’s hand was definitely in this.
She calmly walked to the head of the table and sat down, picked up a teacup, took a sip, and let her gaze drift coolly across each of the
shareholders.
Once the conference room fell silent, she set down her teacup and spoke in a clear, cold voice that everyone could hear, “I think you all have forgotten that when Anderson Industries faced bankruptcy and liquidation, it was I who filled the hole.”
“Moreover, in this whole affair, I haven’t harmed anyone. It was Emma who orchestrated everything herself. What explanation do I
owe you?”
“Orchestrated?”
Ryan Clark scoffed, “Clara, we’ve watched Emma grow up. We know what kind of person she is, don’t we?”
“Exactly.”
Julian Lee nodded in agreement, “Times change.”
“It’s true that you filled the hole when Anderson Industries was on the verge of bankruptcy, but that’s no reason to push Emma and bring Anderson Industries to this point.”
“Originally, Emma marrying Mason Walker would have meant Anderson Industries and the Walker family becoming one. We wouldn’t have lacked funds. Now, with what you’ve done, we’re really heading for bankruptcy!”
Clara looked at these old guards of Anderson Industries who had fought alongside her mother and grandfather, and smiled, though the smile didn’t reach her eyes.
They had watched Emma grow up, but hadn’t they also watched her? The fact that they believed Emma and not her was simply because Robert had offered them too much, so much that they had forgotten everything her grandfather and mother had once given them.
“Anderson Industries is the life’s work of my grandfather and mother. I will not transfer it.”
“Hmph, that’s not up to you to decide.”
Julian scoffed. “All of us shareholders are in agreement. Even with your forty–plus percent stake, you don’t get to call the shots here!”
“I think it’s better for Anderson Industries to stay in the Bennett family!”
Clara’s face twisted into a sneer at that.

See? Just as she thought, they’d conveniently forgotten the agreement they’d signed with her grandfather when they first received their
shares.
“Gentlemen, have you all forgotten that according to the company charter, as long as I’m the legal representative, I can decide whether or not Anderson Industries is sold, regardless of how many shares I hold?”
The shareholders and Victor all paled at her words.
“That’s impossible. Grandfather would never have made such a rule!”
Victor slammed his hands on the table, rising to his feet.
“Because Grandfather knew exactly what kind of people all of you really are.”
Clara shrugged, turning to Victor.“So, since I don’t agree, no one can acquire Anderson Industries.”
“Victor, I told you this yesterday.”
The shareholders bristled at her words, but recalling that there was indeed such a provision in the company’s regulations, they could only turn to Clara with impotent rage.
“Then… then I’ll just buy up everyone’s shares!”
Victor knew that with Clara’s current attitude, the plan to acquire Anderson Industries was dead in the water. But no matter what, he had to get his hands on the shares and be involved in the company’s management. He absolutely couldn’t stand by and watch Anderson Industries be ruined by Clara.
“Shareholders, if you transfer your shares to the Bennett family, I guarantee you’ll receive a 10% premium over the current market value. You won’t lose out, I promise.”
Aaron glanced at Han, who nodded slightly, and then said, “I’ll acquire your shares at the market price from before yesterday. Of course, I’m not as deep–pocketed as the Bennetts, so my funds are limited. First come, first served.”
Evan, who had been silent until now, looked at Clara, a hint of admiration in his eyes. He smiled and spoke in a relaxed tone.
“I’ll also acquire your shares at the market price from before yesterday. I can pay the deposit right now.”
The room fell silent the moment the two men spoke.
The shareholders‘ eyes lit up. The market price from before yesterday was much better than what the Bennetts were offering! Victor’s face instantly soured. He hadn’t expected anyone to compete with him for the shares, especially at such a high price.
“You’re crazy!”
Victor said, growing anxious.
He knew that Anderson Industries‘ stock price had fallen quite a bit in the past two days, and there was no telling how things would develop in the future!
If he were to acquire the shareholders‘ shares at the price from before yesterday…
His father and the Bennett Group board would never approve of it!
Evan Taylor and Aaron Hayes ignored him, focusing instead on the shareholders, awaiting their decision.
The shareholders noticed Victor Bennett’s unease and exchanged glances.

“Mr. Bennett, what do you think you’ll do…?”
Ryan Clark tentatively inquired.

It was clear that the Bennett family wanted to interfere with Anderson Industries, and he might offer even higher than the other two
Victor Bennett opened his mouth, but couldn’t utter a word.
Evan Taylor glanced at him, a hint of mockery in his eyes.“Mr. Bennett, if you don’t have sufficient funds, you should give up sooner
rather than later. Don’t waste everyone’s time here.”
Victor Bennett’s face flushed red and then turned pale. He glared at Clara Bennett, his eyes filled with resentment and rage. “Clara, don’t get too cocky! Even if I don’t acquire Anderson Industries this time, I’ll make sure you never have it easy!”
With that, he grabbed his briefcase and turned to leave in a disheveled manner. The door slammed shut behind him, leaving a dull, resounding thud.
The meeting room fell silent. Clara Bennett checked the time.”Figure out an agreement amongst yourselves.”
After a long silence, Ryan Clark spoke up.“I’ll transfer my shares. At least that way, I won’t go bankrupt with Anderson Industries.”
The other shareholders chimed in agreement.“That’s the only way.”
“Clara, it’s not that we don’t trust you, but Anderson Industries is heading for bankruptcy sooner or later. We’re just trying to protect ourselves.” Ryan ventured.
Clara nodded, her tone light.“I understand your decisions. I wish you all the best in the future.”
She glanced at Aaron and Evan.“Gentlemen, please, make yourselves at home.”
An hour later, everyone had signed the stock transfer agreement, which was notarized online.
Ryan held the newly signed agreement, his face grim.“Anderson Industries is your mother’s life’s work. Take care, and don’t actually run it into the ground.”
“Don’t blame us if we don’t help you out then.”
Julian chimed in, “Exactly! If Mr. Taylor and Mr. Hayes hadn’t been willing to take over, we’d all be going bankrupt with you.”
“Think about the consequences before you act in the future, and don’t put yourself in the spotlight like this again!”
Clara didn’t get angry at these words. Instead, a faint smile touched her lips.
She stood up, her gaze sweeping over these former heroes of Anderson Industries, now just parasites.
“Don’t worry, everyone. Anderson Industries won’t go bankrupt. And soon, you’ll all see whether I was wrong to do what I did.”
“Humph!”
Julian scoffed.“Keep telling yourself that!”
With that, he turned to Evan and Aaron. “I don’t know why you’d buy into Anderson Industries, especially given its current state. Best
of luck.”
“Yeah, best of luck to you all too,” she replied.
Clara rose, nodding to Evan and Aaron.“Thank you both for your faith in me. Now, I’d like to give you a little gift.”
Turning to Aaron, her gaze sharpened.“Aaron, contact the PR department immediately. Release the original scanned copy of Emma

She paused, then added, “Also, file a police report against Walker Venture Partners, and sue Mason Walker for defamation.”
“And hand over all the evidence we’ve gathered on Robert and the other shareholders colluding to short Anderson Industries to the police.”
Aaron nodded promptly. “Understood. I’ll take care of it right away!”
