After hanging up, Clara Bennett stood at the storage room entrance, her feelings a tangled mess.

She wasn’t oblivious to the hesitation in Attorney Brown’s voice. She knew that once this evidence was handed over to the police, the scandal of Ethan Carter forcing her into surrogacy would become public knowledge.

But Ethan Carter’s actions were simply too outrageous. If she didn’t take action, Carter Group and Ethan Carter would continue to believe she owed them something.

The wind whipped dust from outside the storage room onto her face, carrying a biting chill. She tightened her coat and looked up, just in time to see Evan Taylor walking out with those uniformed people.

The lead officer held a file, a sheepish smile replacing his earlier stern expression.

“Mr. Bennett, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.”

Seeing Clara still there, the officer hurried over, handing her the file.

“We’ve thoroughly investigated, and all the quality inspection reports for the raw materials in the storage room are complete, and all indicators meet safety standards.”

“We received a formal complaint and had to act; we apologize for any trouble caused to your company. We hope you understand, Mr.

Bennett.”

Clara took the file, her gaze hardening.“Someone filed a formal complaint?”

“I wonder who this concerned citizen is that can link the steel we use for machining to ‘unsafe‘?”

The smiles on the officers‘ faces instantly froze. They exchanged awkward glances, their eyes involuntarily drifting toward Evan.

Seeing Evan’s inscrutable expression, the lead officer wrung his hands, his smile bitter and his tone vague.

“Mr. Bennett, we’re required to protect the informant’s identity, and… well, let’s just say this person is someone we can’t afford to cross. Please don’t make things difficult for us.”

“Can’t afford to cross?”

Clara chuckled softly, but the amusement didn’t reach her

eyes.

She didn’t press further, closing the file and handing it back.“Now that you’ve investigated and cleared things up, you can remove the seals. If there are any more ‘reports‘ in the future, please verify them thoroughly first.”

Watching their cars disappear down the road, Evan Taylor stepped forward.“Ms. Bennett, rest assured, the boss has already spoken to the higher–ups about this. There won’t be a next time.”

Clara nodded, knowing that this incident had caused Ryan Walker a lot of trouble.

“Your boss has wide connections. Could he help me find out about James Carter’s will before he passed away??

James Carter had said before his death that he had left her shares of Carter Group.

It seemed Richard was giving Clara trouble.
