Chapter 120
Having learned what she wanted to know, Olivia bid Richard and Victor goodnight and left the study. Back in her own room, she
locked the door and eagerly dialed Diane’s number.
“Mom! Clara really is involved in Natalie Parker’s case!”
Diane, who had been watching the servants load boxes into the car, straightened up immediately at Olivia’s words.
“Really? What’s going on?”
“Dad said it himself: Natalie Parker’s arrest wasn’t a coincidence; Clara Bennett orchestrated it!”
Olivia Bennett spoke rapidly, relaying everything she had overheard in the study.“The National Security Agency got the leak evidence all because of Clara’s behind–the–scenes maneuvering. She’s practically a hero now!”
Diane Bennett on the other end of the line was initially stunned, but then her face broke into a triumphant grin. The tension that had gripped her all night instantly dissipated, and she couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
The reason she had initially approached Anthony Parker was because she knew how much he adored his daughter, Natalie. He agreed to stage the car accident for money, all so he could provide her with better educational opportunities.
Even if it really was Clara who contacted him, and he agreed to testify against her, what would he do if he knew that his daughter had been set up by Clara herself and that was the reason she was arrested by the National Security Agency?
Knowing how much Anthony dotes on his daughter, he would undoubtedly hate Clara with every fiber of his being.
When that happens, there is no way he is going to testify against her. Anthony might even turn around and help her take down Clara.
With that thought, Diane Bennett narrowed her eyes with glee.
All she had to do was find Anthony Parker, tell him Clara had set up Natalie, and he’d never testify for her. Without Anthony’s key testimony, Clara could have all the tricks in the world, but she wouldn’t be able to dig up what happened back then!
“Mom?”
Hearing silence on the other end, Olivia called out to Diane.
“Yes, I’m here.”
With a plan forming, Diane’s voice was filled with ease.“I’ll be in Chicago tomorrow. I’ll tell you the details when I get there.” After hanging up, she went to her vanity, looked at her meticulously made–up face in the mirror, and a sinister glint flashed in her
eyes.
The next day, near noon, Diane walked out of Chicago International Airport.
Olivia was already waiting at the VIP exit with a driver. Seeing Diane emerge, she immediately went up to her, “Mom! You’re finally
here!”
Diane nodded, took her daughter’s hand, and got into the car. She said to the driver, “I came in a hurry and didn’t bring much. First, take Olivia to buy some things. After you drop us off, take my luggage home and then come back to pick us up.”
“Yes, Ma’am.”
The driver followed Diane’s instructions and dropped them off at a newly built shopping center in the Suburbs before leaving.

“Mom, what are we doing here?”
Olivia asked, puzzled.
“You’ll find out soon enough.”
Clara squeezed her hand.“You’re not a child anymore, there are some things you should know.”
With that, Diane led Olivia into the shopping mall and up to a clubhouse on the top floor.
She pushed open the door to a private room where the two men who had been tailing Anthony Parker were already waiting.
“Mr. Clark, have you found him?”
Diane pulled Olivia down to sit on the sofa.
“We’re getting close.”
The man called Mr. Clark nodded and respectfully handed over a file.
“As per your instructions, we’ve been focusing on the people Clara Bennett has been in contact with over the past few days. We found out that she and her lawyer were seen near a tea house last night.”
“We pulled up the surveillance footage from around the tea house and found that when her lawyer left, he was with a man who looked a lot like Anthony Parker.”
“After they left the tea house, their car headed towards the suburbs and eventually entered a residential community called ‘Serenity
Garden‘.”
“We sent people to inquire within the community, but the management is quite strict. All outside vehicles and personnel are required to register.”
Diane took the file and quickly flipped through the surveillance screenshots and community information inside, a cold smile forming on her lips.
“Clara certainly knows how to pick a place. This community is in a remote location, and the environment is well–hidden. It’s definitely a good place to hide someone.”
“What’s the situation now? Is Anthony still inside?”
“Yes, he is.”
Mr. Clark continued, “We’ve already stationed people around the perimeter of the complex and haven’t seen Anthony Parker or Attorney Brown leave yet.”
“Plus, we have people inside the complex who have confirmed that Anthony Parker is staying in apartment 502 of Building 3. They’ve even arranged for two bodyguards to stand guard downstairs.”
“Just two bodyguards? They’re nothing to worry about.”
Diane Bennett waved her hand dismissively.“Keep watching them, but don’t spook them. We’ll move in tonight.”
She knew that now wasn’t the time for a direct confrontation with Clara Bennett. If she stirred things up and Clara got wind of it and moved Anthony Parker, it would be much harder to find him again.
“Yes, Mrs. Bennett.”
Mr. Clark replied respectfully.

Diane Bennett patted Mr. Clark on the shoulder, her tone laced with warning. “This matter is of utmost importance. Be careful and cautious, and absolutely no mistakes.”
“Rest assured, we will handle it perfectly.”
Mr. Clark quickly assured her.
Diane Bennett nodded in satisfaction and left the club with Olivia Bennett, planning to buy a few things downstairs.
Olivia Bennett glanced back at the two men and asked curiously, “Mom, who are they?”
It was the first time she had heard anyone call Diane Bennett “Mrs. Bennett” instead of “Mrs. Bennett-”
“That’s none of your concern.”
Honey, just know that no matter what, I’m doing this for your own good, okay?” Diane said with a smile.
“Okay, Mom.”
Seeing the serious look on Diane’s face, Olivia didn’t dare to ask more. Thinking of what she had just overheard, she asked, “So, what’s the plan for tonight? Are we just going to barge in and drag Anthony out?”
“No, too risky.”
Diane shook her head.“Forcing our way in will definitely lead to a confrontation, and if things get too loud, it’ll be trouble if the cops show up.”
“Plus, Anthony still has hope for Clara. Even if we get him out, he might not believe what we say.”
“Then what do we do?”
Olivia was getting anxious.“We can’t just keep watching him forever, can we?”
“Don’t
worry,
I have a plan.”
Diane glanced at the luxury items in the display case, and said softly, “Tonight, I’ll have someone pretend to be a maintenance worker from the apartment complex and knock on Anthony’s door, saying they need to check the pipes.”
“Once we get a chance to talk to him, I can find a way to tell him that Clara set up Natalie.”
“Once he believes us, he’ll come with us willingly.”
At the same time, in her own apartment, Clara was looking at the detailed information about Natalie that Ryan had sent her. The file indicated that before Natalie Parker received funding from the Carter family, she indeed went by the name Sophie Parker, and all her expenses for studying abroad were actually paid for by James Carter.
A flicker of confusion crossed Clara Bennett’s eyes.
If the old man had favored Natalie Parker back then, why would he force Ethan Carter to marry her?
If he wasn’t satisfied with her, how could he give her such a large sum of money and arrange everything for her abroad?
An idea flashed through her mind: Could it be that… Natalie Parker had voluntarily left Ethan Carter’s side at the arrangement of James Carter?
Thinking of this possibility, Clara Bennett sneered. It seemed that both James Carter and Natalie Parker had kept this from Ethan

Canter
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so hung up on Natalie Parker for so many years, leading to the current situation.
Just as she was thinking, her phone rang.
Clara Bennett swiped to answer, and Ryan Walker’s voice came through the receiver,
“Clara, I’ve coordinated with the detention center. You can go see Natalie Parker now.”
“I’m waiting for you downstairs. I’ll go with you.”
“Okay, thank you.”
Clara Bennett put aside her thoughts, immediately got up, grabbed her coat, and hurried downstairs.
Downstairs, Ryan Walker was leaning against a nondescript Lincoln sedan. Seeing Clara Bennett step out of the elevator, he tossed his cigarette butt into a trash can and waved his hand in front of himself to dissipate the smoke smell.
“Sorry, didn’t expect you to be down so quickly.”
Seeing him like this warmed Clara’s heart.“You don’t have to do that.”
When she was with Ethan Carter, he would never have cared whether she could smell the smoke or not.
“Of course I do.”
Ryan pulled open the passenger door, gesturing for her to get in.“Secondhand smoke is really bad for you.”
Forty minutes later, the Lincoln drove straight into the National Security Agency building, bypassing the usual security checks.
Clara glanced at Ryan, surprised.
Ryan parked the car and pointed upwards.“Knew we were coming today, so I had someone pull some strings. Better to avoid being recognized.”
“You think of everything.”
Clara said sincerely.
“Everything’s arranged, go on in.”
Ryan tilted his chin, indicating the NSA lobby.“I’ll wait for you here. If anything comes up, just let me know when you come out.”
Clara nodded, knowing the rule that phones weren’t allowed inside the NSA.“Okay.”
After a series of strict security checks, Clara was led to the visiting room by a staff member.
The visitation room was stark, furnished only with a rectangular table and a chair on either side.
Clara took a seat on one side of the table, settling in to wait.
Before long, the door to the visitation room opened, and Natalie Parker was escorted in by two officers, wearing the same clothes she had on the day she was brought into the National Security Agency.
Her hair was disheveled, her face pale, and dark circles were prominent under her eyes. She looked significantly worn down, her eyes filled with suspicion.
“What are you doing here?”

“Here to laugh at me, or to announce your victory?”
Clara ignored the sarcasm in her voice, cutting straight to the chase by sliding the photo of Anthony Parker in front of her.
“Someone asked me to check on you.”
Natalie lowered her head, her body visibly stiffening the moment she saw the photograph
“I don’t know him.”
Natalie’s voice trembled slightly.
Clara didn’t call her out on her lie, simply stating, “He says you’re his daughter, Sophie Parker.”
“Don’t say that name!”
Mang
Natalie suddenly shrieked, drawing the attention of the guards outside the door. They shifted their gaze away after Clara gave them at look that signaled everything was alright.
Clara observed Natalie’s expression.“Anthony saw your photo on the news and said you look a lot like
your
mother.”
“How dare he even mention my mom!”
Natalie’s emotions spiraled further out of control.“If he hadn’t been caught for drunk driving and killing someone, how could I have become the daughter of a murderer?”
“How could my mother have had to work multiple jobs just to support me, only to end up working herself to death!”
If it weren’t for that incident, how could she have been disliked by James Carter, forced to separate from Ethan Carter, and ended up in
this miserable situation?
Hearing this, Clara closed her eyes briefly. If it hadn’t been for that car accident, her own mother wouldn’t have died, and she wouldn’t have been schemed by her uncle into marrying Ethan, leading to her current predicament.
“I don’t care how you found out about my connection to him or how you managed to track him down, Clara. Don’t think you can use
him to threaten me.”
Natalie glared at Clara, her voice laced with venom.“Tell him I don’t have a father. My father is long dead!”
If it wasn’t to completely get rid of him, get rid of this murderer father, how could she have taken the risk to steal Blade’s data in order to get a green card!
Upon hearing this, Clara didn’t say anything more, stood up, and said, “Okay.”
She had come to see Natalie today simply to find out Natalie’s attitude towards Anthony, to give Anthony an answer, so that she could smoothly get the recording about Diane from Anthony.
She took a deep look at Natalie and turned to leave the visiting room, leaving Natalie sitting there alone, watching her back with a complex expression.
Walking out of the hall and getting into the car, Ryan noticed that her expression was a little off and asked, “What’s wrong? Did it not
go well?
“No”
Clara shook her head wearily. She just felt that fate was playing tricks on people. “It’s not a matter of going well or not. Just seeing her is enough to give Anthony an answer,”

“By the way, do you have anything to do later?”
She wanted to go see Anthony directly.
“Nothing much.”
Ryan shook his head. “Where do you want to go? Send me the location, and I’ll take
you there.”
“Okay.”
ANKIT
Clara forwarded the location Attorney Brown had sent her to Ryan. Closing the chat interface, she then saw a message from Chris.
“Ms. Bennett, my colleagues have already started contacting Anthony according to the location Attorney Brown provided. We’ve also arranged for people to stake out near the apartment complex.”
“Thank you.”
Replying to Chris’s message, Clara looked up at the sky.
It was already late autumn, and dusk was falling much earlier than before. Though it was only five or six in the evening, it was already quite dark.
The car started, but Ryan Walker didn’t head straight for Serenity Garden Complex. Instead, he drove around in circles a few times, ensuring they weren’t being followed, before picking up speed and heading towards the suburbs.
Meanwhile, outside Serenity Garden Complex, in a black sedan, Diane Bennett’s men were keeping a close watch on the entrances and exits of the complex.
One of them picked up the walkie–talkie and reported, “Mr. Clark, a Lincoln just drove into the complex.”
“Didn’t see this car leave this morning, so it’s a bit suspicious. There are two people in the car, can’t make out their faces.”
Seeing that the car didn’t stop at the entrance of the building where Anthony Parker lived, but instead drove deeper into the complex, the man breathed a sigh of relief.
“Probably not looking for Anthony.”
Mr. Clark’s voice came over the walkie–talkie, “Understood, keep a close watch, don’t act rashly. The Madam will be here soon, report any changes immediately.”
“Roger that.”
Ryan Walker had already noticed the black sedan at the entrance of the complex. He drove the car two buildings further in before stopping at the entrance of a building.
Seeing the puzzled look in Clara Bennett’s eyes, Ryan explained, “That car at the entrance of the complex looked a bit suspicious.”
Seeing Clara trying to turn back for a look, he put his arm around her shoulders, steering her straight into the building and pressing the button for the underground parking.“Don’t look back.”
This complex was built early on, and the underground parking lot didn’t have enough spaces. Outsider vehicles could only park above ground, but you could get to Anthony’s building from the underground parking.
Clara caught a whiff of the faint soap scent coming from the man next to her, and her ears tingled a little. The sensation lingered even after Ryan released her once they were inside the elevator.
Upstairs, Anthony, who knew Clara was coming, immediately hurried to the door upon hearing the knock. He checked through the

peephole, and only opened the door once he saw it was her.
“Ms. Bennett, you’re here!”
Anthony’s tone was urgent, his eyes full of hope.“Sophie… How is Sophie?”
Clara stepped into the apartment, taking in the surroundings.
It was a two–bedroom apartment with a living room, simply furnished but very clean, clearly a hiding place carefully chosen by Attorney Brown.
“Have a seat, let’s talk calmly.”
Clara sat down on the sofa, gesturing for Anthony to do the same.
Anthony quickly sat down on the sofa across from Clara, leaning forward slightly, his eyes fixed on her.
Ryan, witnessing Anthony’s state, shook his head and settled into a nearby armchair, silently lamenting how fortunate Natalie was to have a father who genuinely loved her.
“I met with Natalie Parker at the National Security Agency today,” Clara began.
Clara looked at Anthony, her eyes filled with sympathy, yet she didn’t sugarcoat Natalie’s stance.“She got emotional when she saw your photo…”
Noticing Clara’s hesitation, Anthony managed a smile that was more painful than tears.“She… resents me, doesn’t she?”
“She’s not in a good place. Being inside for so many days has taken a toll on her.”
Clara reassured him, “But she hasn’t been mistreated. They don’t do that kind of stuff anymore.”
“That’s good, that’s good.”
Anthony sighed in relief, raising a hand to wipe the moisture from the corner of his eye.“Why would she do something like this?”
“She used to be so well–behaved. She would never intentionally do anything illegal.”
Clara paused for a moment before speaking honestly, “Mr. Parker, people change as their environment changes.”
“Natalie Parker is indeed implicated in stealing state secrets. The evidence is irrefutable. No one can change that. There are only two possible outcomes for her now.”
“Either she’s deported back–of course, that depends on her backers communicating with the higher–ups.”
“Or she stays here and serves her sentence.”
Anthony Parker visibly deflated, but nodded. “I understand, Ms. Bennett. Regardless, thank you for making this trip for me.”
“Mr. Parker, I know this might sound harsh.”
Clara Bennett watched him, testing the waters.“Could you perhaps tell me where the recording of your conversation with Diane
Bennett is now?”
“Of course.”
Anthony Parker took a deep breath, as if steeling himself for something monumental.
“The recording of my conversation with Diane Bennett is with a cousin back in my hometown. He lives in…”
