Want My Womb? I'll Make You Childless novel Chapter 36

< Chapter 36

Just a few minutes. He fished out the necklace, wiped it dry with a tissue, then handed it to Ethan.

Clara couldn’t take her eyes off the necklace. Not since David had fished it out.

He caught her staring. Ethan took the necklace.”Ready to get out?”

Clara stumbled out of the fountain, a shivering, dripping mess. The night breeze hit her hard, and her soaked evening gown felt like a lead weight.

She stalked over to Ethan, hand outstretched.”Give me the necklace.”

Ethan played with the necklace.”Your mom’s keepsake, you said?”

Clara nodded. He smirked.”Come home with me, and it’s yours.”

Clara’s face hardened. She hated the idea of going back, but she couldn’t bear to let Ethan keep the necklace.

She was about to nod when Mason cut in.”What’s the meaning of this, Mr. Carter? I bought that necklace for my fiancée.”

“But she likes it.”

Ethan’s voice was flat.”Name your price, Mr. Walker. I’ll take it off your hands.”

“Eth.”

Olivia, who’d been trailing Ethan, heard that and her eyes lit up. She practically sprinted over, but her expression soured when she spotted Clara, looking completely wrecked.

“Since Mr. Walker bought this for his fiancée, it would be rude for me to take it. Didn’t you promise to have a designer create a custom one just for me?”

She shot Clara a smug, challenging look.

Clara watched her husband and her ex. One, fighting for his side chick. The other, for his fiancée. Both of them, battling over her mother’s keepsake.

She ran a hand over the goosebumps on her arms. Was it the cold of the night air, or the bitter chill in her heart that froze her more?

All she felt was utter exhaustion. She turned to leave.

Next second, Mason spoke up.”Since Ms. Bennett wants it so bad, I guess I could bring myself to part with it.”

“Ten million. Just ten million bucks, and I’ll hand over the necklace. How about it?”

He looked at Clara, a smirk playing on his lips, knowing she couldn’t come up with that kind of cash.”Actually, Clara, if you want it, it’s first come, first served. How about it?”

“Deal.”

Ethan nodded.

Clara’s steps faltered for just a beat, but she didn’t stop, pushing forward.

Ethan watched her walk away, his expression darkening.

Did she really hate being linked to him that much,

lly with Mason right there?

All she had to do was say the word. He’d grab the necklace and hand it right over to her.

Clara yanked open the car door, grabbed the clean clothes from the trunk, and changed in the back seat.

Tears blurred her vision.

Ten million dollars was nothing to Ethan; if he wanted to, he could gather that much liquid cash by tomorrow.

But ten million dollars was an astronomical sum to her. She had no idea when she’d ever be able to save that much.

Sobs echoed from the car. Ethan and Mason’s faces grew grim.

Not far away, Olivia and Emma exchanged a look, then smiled at each other.

Emma walked over to Mason and linked her arm through his.

Olivia approached Ethan, smiling sweetly.

It was almost midnight when Clara got back to her apartment. As she stepped out of the elevator, she saw an unwelcome guest waiting at her

door.

“What are you doing here?”

Clara’s face darkened.”Are you tracking me?”

“Yeah,” he said. “I need to talk to you about something.”

Ethan leaned against the wall, tucking his phone away.”Luke’s first day of school is the day after tomorrow. Grandpa hasn’t been feeling well lately, and I’m swamped. You need to go.”

“Nope.”

Clara, her back to Ethan, typed in the code.

Ethan tried a different tack.”You go, and I’ll grant you one favor.”

Clara turned to him, her eyes sharp with scrutiny.”Then you stay out of my way for the necklace.”

“Deal.”

Ethan’s eyes flashed with disappointment. Why didn’t she just ask him to get the necklace for her? Was she really that desperate to avoid any connection to him?

Clara hadn’t expected him to agree so fast. She immediately smelled a rat.”Have someone send over a written agreement tomorrow. guarantee you won’t compete for the necklace. Once I’ve checked it and confirmed everything’s legit, I’ll sign, and then I’ll go.” She opened the door. Ethan followed her inside, still pushing.”You really don’t trust me, do you?”

“Do you deserve it?”

Clara blocked his path.”The deal’s set. Now leave.”

Ethan’s gaze swept around the apartment. He frowned.”You’re living in a dump like this when you have a perfectly good villa available?”

“No staff? No help? How are you even gonna manage, pregnant?”

“That’s none of your business.”

Clara pushed him towards the door.

“Clara!”

Ethan stumbled back a couple steps from her push. He was about to speak when, BAM, the door slammed shut right in his face. Ethan was finally gone. Clara felt the world instantly get a whole lot quieter.

Thinking about the auction tonight, she grabbed her phone and dialed Attorney Brown

‘Hey, Attorney Brown, sorry to bother you this late. I was just wondering, what’s the latest with my divorce case? Where are we at?”

As long as Ethan really didn’t fight her for the necklace, once they divorced and split the assets, she’d have no problem getting her hands on ten million dollars.

‘Ms. Bennett, the divorce papers are already filed. We should have a court date by next week, at the latest.”

Clara blinked.

So, next week she could be officially divorced from Ethan, split their assets, and finally get that necklace!
