What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 131

Kaia's body stiffened. When she finally turned her head, a flash of defensiveness and repulsion lingered in her eyes.

She didn't say a word, but her entire posture was rigid.

Finnian's hand hung awkwardly in the air.

Kaia turned her back to him again, instinctively scooting further toward the edge of the bed to put more distance between them.

Finnian could hear his own heartbeat, followed by a burning sense of humiliation creeping across his handsome face.

"Kaia..." Finnian kept his voice low, knowing she wasn't asleep.

"Finnian, don't even think about it." She was definitely awake. Judging by her tone, she was entirely lucid.

Finnian froze for a moment before replying, "Don't worry, I wasn't going to try anything."

With that, he got out of bed and grabbed some pillows, creating a makeshift barricade around their daughter. "Since you don't want to have another child, I won't force you. But let me remind you of one thing: The Sanders family needs more than just one heir. Brynlee can’t be the only one."

After saying that, Finnian opened the door and walked out.

Kaia pulled the covers up, completely enveloping herself and her daughter. At that moment, a complex wave of emotions washed over her—a deep sense of loss, the frustration of being misunderstood, the chilling aftermath of betrayal, and profound sorrow.

Some rifts and wounds, once created, could never be bridged or healed.

Just like how she used to love being intimate with him, but now, even the thought of his touch made her pull away in resistance.

On Tuesday afternoon, Kaia had a meeting at the conglomerate's headquarters. After it wrapped up, a medical equipment supplier working with Veridian Future approached her to discuss a potential partnership. He suggested they head up to the fifteenth-floor sky lounge to go over the details.

Kaia naturally didn't refuse. They talked over coffee for about half an hour, finalized some project specifics, and shook hands before parting ways.

Just then, a familiar figure approached from a distance. It was Noelle. She seemed to have been meeting someone here as well. Seeing Kaia, she offered a warm smile. "Kaia, what a coincidence. What brings you here?"

Noelle's voice was always soft and non-confrontational. Regardless of who she spoke to, they would always feel a sense of absolute sincerity in her words.

If Kaia hadn't already seen through her true nature from past events, she might have been fooled by the facade right now.

"Did you need something?" Kaia asked, noticing that even after the supplier left, Noelle didn't move on. Instead, she sat down directly across from Kaia, setting her folder aside.

"Kaia, I think I saw Leo here yesterday. He was probably looking for Finnian to discuss a partnership. How is your brother's business doing?" Noelle asked, her tone dripping with concern.

Kaia sat alone as the bright sunlight streamed through the window. She took a sip of her cold coffee. Not knowing the exact situation, she wondered if she should ask him about it.

Or should she pretend she knew nothing?

Kaia decided to leave it alone for now. If her brother really wanted her help, he would come to her directly.

She pulled out her phone and subconsciously scrolled for a moment before her finger hovered over Finnian's chat window.

Should she ask him?

Remembering what he had said the other night, Kaia's heart felt like it had been plunged into ice water.

He had said the Sanders family couldn't just have Brynlee. It seemed he had already made up his mind to have another healthy child with Noelle for the sake of the family.

In the end, she didn't send anything. She locked her phone and headed back to Veridian Future.

Over the next couple of weeks, Veridian successfully secured six major projects. To reward the staff for their hard work, Silas decided to host a dinner for everyone.

Kaia naturally couldn't refuse the company celebration. The atmosphere at the upscale private restaurant was relaxed and lively.
