"Alright," Finnian nodded.
Noelle walked downstairs, her steps feeling incredibly heavy. This house was no longer a place she could just casually drop in on. Her license plate had been wiped from the system—Kaia had definitely done that.
She was Noelle Lawrence. And yet, she didn't even have the freedom to drive through the front gates of the Sanders estate. How petty could Kaia possibly be?
Finnian stood in the hallway, leaning against the wall, waiting for Kaia to come out.
When Kaia finally emerged carrying her files, he stared at her. "Are you misunderstanding something again?"
Kaia walked right past him, her voice perfectly flat. "What is there to misunderstand? I don't care what you two do."
With that, she took off down the stairs.
Finnian stood completely paralyzed.
"Kaia, is this really necessary? She's family," he snapped, a sudden wave of irritation washing over him. Her sheer indifference infuriated him.
Down in the dining room, Layla handed Kaia her packed toast along with a warm cup of soy milk for the road.
Kaia glanced back up at the man descending the stairs. Finnian was actually mad.
"I'm fine. Oh, by the way, I left a document on the desk in your bedroom. Take a look when you have a minute and let me know."
Without another word, Kaia turned and walked out the door.
Witnessing the exchange, Layla's bad feeling solidified into pure dread.
Mrs. Sanders's attitude... Did she already know everything?
Finnian stood in the dining room, looking through the glass windows as the silver Mercedes disappeared down the driveway.
Then, he turned and marched heavily back up the stairs.
Pushing open the door to his bedroom, he immediately noticed a manila folder sitting on the desk.
He picked it up, unwound the string, and slid the paperwork out.
On the very first page, in stark black and white, was a bolded title: Divorce Agreement Draft.
Finnian's eyes went dark, his fingers instinctively tightening around the paper.
He sat down on the edge of the bed, staring daggers at the words, as if trying to burn a hole through the paper and read whatever ulterior motive Kaia was hiding.
Quinn Finch & Associates. Finnian pulled out his phone and immediately searched for the attorney's name.
Almost all of Finch's landmark cases were high-net-worth divorce settlements.
Kaia certainly knew how to pick them. It seemed she was dead set on this.
She had told him recently that she was preparing for a divorce. It hadn't just been an angry threat—she was actually executing it.
The two lawyers took the document. The moment they read the title, they froze, looking as if they had just stumbled onto a highly classified state secret. Their expressions instantly turned nervous.
"I need your professional input," Finnian said, completely deadpan. "I also need you to find every loophole in those clauses to blow this agreement out of the water."
Connor and Zachary reflexively adjusted their glasses. No one in their wildest dreams would have guessed that the CEO and Dr. Chavez were secretly negotiating a divorce.
To the outside world, their marriage might not have seemed wildly passionate, but they were a true power couple. They had always been the envy of their social circles.
Dexter sneaked a glance at the document and was entirely dumbfounded.
He quickly chimed in, "Mr. Sanders, Connor and Zachary specialize in corporate disputes and M&A contracts. A divorce settlement really isn't in their wheelhouse..."
Finnian held up a hand, instantly cutting him off. "Divorce lawyers just want to play peacemaker and push for mediation. I want a real legal defense. This is exactly where they excel."
Hearing that, the two lawyers almost shuddered. Their boss's goal was...
Finnian's severe gaze swept over them. "I want you to find every single contestable clause in that draft. Every procedural flaw. Anything that can be used to delay, apply pressure, or act as leverage in a negotiation."
The moment Dexter heard that, Finnian's true intentions became glaringly obvious. He didn't want a divorce.
Cold sweat prickled down the lawyers' backs. Their boss was about to treat his own marriage with the exact same ruthless, cutthroat tactics he used on the corporate battlefield.
"Furthermore," Finnian continued, locking eyes with them, "I want you to tap into your networks. If this goes to trial, based on Kaia's circumstances, I want to know exactly how a judge would rule."
