Kaia struggled slightly, stepping half a pace away. Finnian's hand lingered in the air behind her back for a second before he slowly curled his fingers into a fist and let his arm drop to his side.
When they reached their floor, Finnian and Noelle stepped out of the elevator first, prompting a loud scoff from Warren.
Upon entering the private room, they found seven or eight people already seated. Kaia recognized a few of them and greeted them gracefully. There were two unfamiliar faces, whom Warren introduced one by one.
During the initial catching up, Kaia and the other young person present sat quietly as the younger generation, simply listening. As dinner courses were steadily brought to the table, Kaia finally had the chance to get to know the young man sitting next to her.
He was the son of her father's friend, Professor Sterling. His name was Jackson Sterling. After graduating abroad with a degree in biotechnology, he joined a multinational medical data company. Since they were in the same overarching field, the conversation flowed effortlessly.
"Dr. Chavez, why don't we step outside for a chat? I'll treat you to a coffee so we don't interrupt the elders catching up," Jackson offered with a smile.
Kaia nodded, let her father know, and stepped out with him.
The two headed to a cafe on the third floor of the hotel, sat down, and returned to their academic discussion.
"Our database is actively seeking global partnerships. Veridian Future although recently established, is one of the clients we'd love to develop. Running into you here really feels like fate," Jackson said with a smile.
Kaia nodded and smiled back. "From our conversation earlier, your focus is on highly sensitive neural signal data, which isn't quite on the same scale as our current projects. But of course, if the opportunity arises, there will definitely be room for collaboration in the future."
"I've often heard my father mention you. You're the final student of the legendary Dr. Eleanor Vance. My dad admires you greatly. Meeting you today, I see your reputation is well-deserved. I haven't been sleeping well lately. Would you mind checking my pulse and giving me some health advice?" Jackson asked, extending his right hand for her to diagnose.
Kaia paused, a bit surprised by the sudden medical request.
She smiled and nodded, placing her fingers on his pulse point, her expression turning focused and professional.
Not far away, Finnian stood frozen.
He had just stepped off the elevator looking for Kaia, only to see her heading down in another elevator with a young man. He followed them and searched the area until he spotted the two of them sitting in the cafe, with Kaia's fingers resting on the man's wrist.
Warren's words from earlier crashed like tidal waves in his chest.
So, did they come here for dinner, or for a blind date?
Just as Kaia was about to offer Jackson a few recommendations, she caught sight of the tall figure standing outside the glass window.
Finnian had one hand casually tucked into his pocket as he leaned against the railing. His posture seemed relaxed, but his gaze was locked intensely on their table.
