Finnian genuinely thought Dexter's eyes were malfunctioning. "If your vision is failing, I highly suggest you see a doctor."
Dexter gaped, entirely speechless.
When did the boss start verbally attacking people?
Deciding it was best to shut his mouth about the marriage, Dexter pivoted back to business. He didn't want Aethelstan's reputation to tank further. "Mr. Sanders, should the PR department issue a statement? If the rumors about Ms. Lawrence keep spreading, it's going to hurt Aethelstan's bottom line."
Finnian frowned, pondering for a moment before replying, "No need."
In his mind, Noelle needed this kind of adversity to temper her spirit. She had a long life ahead of her. If she shattered under a bit of corporate gossip, she was simply too fragile.
Kaia, on the other hand, possessed an inner core of solid steel.
Dexter blinked, nodded, and quickly exited the office.
At six o'clock that evening, Silas hosted a massive celebration dinner for Kaia and her team.
He booked a sprawling private room at The Chef's Table, a highly-rated restaurant near the west side park. Over twenty people were seated across two large round tables.
Kaia sat at the main table with Brynlee beside her.
The little girl wore a pretty floral dress, her hair styled in a delicate princess hairstyle. Her waist-length hair was silky and soft, and her face glowed with pure, unrestrained pride.
From the moment they walked in, all she heard was everyone praising her mother's brilliance.
Colleagues constantly came over to toast Kaia. Since she had driven, she politely declined the alcohol, sipping tea instead.
Watching the lively atmosphere and the raised glasses, Brynlee kicked off her shoes, stood up on her chair, and raised her little cup of milk. Kaia quickly wrapped an arm around her to keep her steady.
"Please, stop praising me," Kaia laughed, raising her teacup. "This was a team effort. The glory belongs to all of us."
Jenna waved her hand dismissively. "Dr. Chavez, you're way too modest. If you hadn't pointed us in the right direction, we'd still be running into walls. Hard work is absolutely useless in the face of sheer talent."
Brynlee didn't understand the corporate jargon, but her eyes sparkled brightly. She leaned into Kaia's ear and whispered, "Mom, they keep saying you're amazing. Are you really that amazing?"
Kaia looked down at her, smiling softly. "Just a little bit. You're going to be even more amazing than me one day."
"Really? Then I want to be a scientist just like you when I grow up! I want people to praise me too!" Brynlee declared, accidentally setting the trajectory for her entire future.
Hearing her daughter's words, Kaia let out a genuine, ringing laugh. With such a warm, perfect child, she felt her life was already complete. Anything else was just a bonus.
She pressed a tender kiss to Brynlee's forehead, silently swearing that if her daughter truly wanted this path, she would move heaven and earth to help her achieve it.
