Whats She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 513

Chapter 513

The restaurant Simon Quinn booked was right by the river. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the entire night view of the riverfront stretched out, with cruise ships drifting back and forth, their lights trailing like long, luminous tails.

When Kaia arrived with her purse, she was already half an hour late, her face full of apologies.

“I’m so sorry, traffic was terrible.”

Simon topped off her lukewarm tea with hot water, his voice incredibly gentle. “It’s fine, I haven’t been waiting long.” He glanced toward the entrance Kaia had just walked through. “You didn’t bring Brynlee with you?”

Kaia sat down across from him and took a sip of water. “Brynlee was picked up by her grandmother. I originally planned to bring her along.”

Simon smiled and said, “Anna has been a bit under the weather the last couple of days. She wanted to come too, but I was worried she might pass it on to Brynlee, so I had her stay home to rest.”

Kaia nodded. “With the change in seasons, it’s peak time for catching colds. You really need to pay close attention to any changes in her health.”

Simon sighed helplessly. “I don’t have much experience. I’ll have to ask Dr. Chavez to impart some of her wisdom to me in the future.”

Kaia looked at him and laughed. “Anna is so lucky to have such a responsible uncle.”

Being praised by her made Simon feel a surge of delight, though the tips of his ears flushed slightly hot.

“Is that so? Then… would you consider this responsible man for yourself?”

Simon delivered the line as a joke, but Kaia froze.

He quickly changed the subject. “This restaurant is new. Take a look at the menu-l only ordered one dish so far.”

Kaia took the menu, flipped through it, selected a few items, and handed it back to the waiter.

The window seat was incredibly quiet, and the ambiance was perfect, but there was still a cautious undercurrent between them. After all, this was their first time having dinner alone together.

When the food arrived, Simon urged Kaia to try a bit of everything.

Kaia rested her chin in her hand, watching the boats glide by on the river outside, the lights scattering like shattered stars on the water’s surface.

Simon didn’t pick up his fork. He continued sipping his tea, his gaze occasionally drifting to Kaia’s face. His expression was hesitant, but ultimately, he decided to be upfront. “Kaia, there’s something I want to ask you.”

Kaia’s heart skipped a beat. “Go ahead.”

Simon’s face reddened a fraction before he spoke. “Last time, Finnian said that I was the guy you had a secret crush on. Is that true or false?

Kaia looked embarrassed. In truth, one of the reasons she agreed to this dinner was to clear up this exact misunderstanding. She didn’t want Simon getting the wrong idea.

“He was just talking nonsense, please don’t take it seriously, Kaia said with a light laugh. 1 dides have a secret crush on anyone.”

Simon looked at her, then offered a bitter smile. “That person was Finnian, wasn’t it? And he didn’t even know,”

Kaia lowered her gaze, her expression growing tight.
