When Love Finds Its Way Back (Cassienne and Dreston) novel Chapter 396

It had been three weeks since Lilly Jasmine Tremont was born, and although Dreston had finally been discharged from the hospital, he was still under strict medical supervision because his injury had not completely healed.

Emily arrived a week earlier after hearing everything that had happened, and from the moment she entered the Tremont mansion, she made it clear that she was not pleased with anyone.

First, she was angry because Dreston had been shot and nobody thought to inform her immediately. Then she discovered that Cassienne had already given birth and, once again, no one had told her until several days later.

For more than two weeks, Emily rejected every apology offered to her and focused all her attention on Lilly Jasmine, as if caring for the baby was the only thing that could calm her anger.

She took full responsibility for carrying, feeding, and watching over the baby, leaving Abigail with no choice but to wait patiently for her own turn.

Dreston’s mansion had slowly become a second home for both sets of parents. Joseph and Abigail spent most of their time there, while Emily had practically moved in without officially announcing it. Even Jessica came and went so often that nobody bothered asking whether she intended to return home anymore.

For the first time in a long while, the family had finally found peace.

There were no threats hanging over them, no hidden enemies watching from the shadows, and no new danger waiting to destroy the happiness they had fought so hard to rebuild.

Cassienne was also still recovering from childbirth, but she barely stayed away from Dreston because she insisted on taking care of him herself, even though everyone kept reminding her that she also needed rest.

The doctors had warned Dreston not to move around too much for at least four weeks, since the wound was still healing, but Dreston rarely listened when it concerned his daughter.

No matter how many times Cassienne or Abigail told him to remain in bed, he always found a way to enter the nursery, where he would sit beside Lilly’s crib and insist on feeding her himself whenever possible.

Of course, Emily allowed him.

She seemed to believe that Dreston was the only person, apart from Cassienne, who had the right to hold the baby without asking her permission first.

Everyone else had to wait.

Even Abigail.

Still, nobody complained too much because the house was finally filled with peace, laughter, and the soft cries of a healthy baby, which was more than any of them had dared to hope for only a few weeks earlier.

Garry was also doing much better.

He had been discharged a week after the incident and had slowly started returning to his normal life, although he spent most of his time checking on Dreston.

Even after Dreston returned home, Garry was practically always at the mansion, and Ariana was often beside him.

The family had become familiar with the young woman, especially after Garry made it clear that she was important to him and that he wanted her in his life.

Ariana was gentle, respectful, and easy to be around, which made it difficult for anyone to dislike her.

Even Aurora, who was careful about the people she trusted, had grown fond of her.

Aurora’s relationship with Corren had also changed in the most natural way.

What started as friendship and mutual respect had slowly become love, not because either of them forced it, but because they understood each other in a way that felt safe and real.

They did not need dramatic promises or constant reassurance because their connection had grown quietly through trust, patience, and everything they had survived together.

That was what made their relationship beautiful.

That afternoon, everyone gathered at Dreston and Cassienne’s mansion for lunch, and the house felt fuller than it had in weeks.

The food had already been served, and everyone had taken their place around the long dining table, except Emily, who carried Lilly Jasmine in her arms and continued moving from one side of the room to the other.

She had refused to join them at the table because she claimed the baby needed to be carried.

Nobody believed her.

Lilly had been sleeping peacefully for nearly twenty minutes.

Joseph looked in Emily’s direction before lowering his voice. “When will Emily allow someone else to carry Lilly Jasmine?”

Jessica almost choked on her food.

She quickly reached for her glass of water, while everyone else struggled to suppress the laughter threatening to escape.

They had all been careful around Emily since her arrival because she had not fully forgiven any of them, and she was always ready to challenge anyone who tried to make a claim over the baby.

That was their punishment for keeping such important news from her.

Abigail sighed quietly. “I have been asking myself the same question.”

Emily turned her head toward them. “I can hear both of you.”

Joseph immediately focused on his food.

Abigail also looked down at her plate.

Jessica pressed her lips together to stop herself from laughing.

Cassienne glanced around the table and decided it was safer to change the subject before Emily started another argument.

“Can we discuss Daisy and Ray’s engagement?”

Dreston squeezed Cassienne’s hand beneath the table, clearly pleased that she had redirected the conversation.

He had no intention of upsetting Emily again. As far as he was concerned, she could carry Lilly all day if that kept the peace.

Nobody needed to compete with her.
