When did Aurelia ger so blunt? Jasper wondered, a bit taken aback.
Even just talking to her over the phone, Jasper felt himself shrinking back.
“No, it’s not that. Cassian’s sick. He’s at the hospital, Jasper just told her the truth.
When Aurelia arrived at the hospital, Cassian was still burning up with a fever.
He was totally out of it, barely aware of anything around him.
He had been perfectly fine just yesterday.
With a furrowed brow, Aurelia asked Jasper, “How did Cassian end up like this?”
“He was really shaken up by something.stood under the fountain for hours and made himself sick,” Jasper replied, sounding helpless
As Jasper spoke, he snuck a look at Aurelia, checking to see how she’d take it.
But she gave nothing away.
Aurelia looked totally unbothered, almost cold.
Jasper felt bad for Cassian and tried to speak up for him. “Aurelia, Cassian’s had a rough time these past few years. Honestly…he never really got over you.”
“So?” Aurelia replied, her tone flat. “Does that mean I have to keep putting up with his flip–flopping?”
“Is my heart just some bargain item he can throw away whenever he feels like it, and take back whenever it suits him?” she added.
Pack when she put her heart on the line and asked him to marry her, Cassian was the one who just let go, cold and ruthless.
He walked away, not even a hint of hesitation.
She was the one he left behind after doing the math, weighing his options.
And back then, did anyone care about how she felt?
There’s no way Aurelia would let a few kind gestures erase all the pain she’d been through.
Jasper was left speechless.
He couldn’t answer her.
He’d seen with his own eyes how Aurelia struggled and tried to pull herself together.
When it came to love, nobody really won.
Cassian’s fever was through the roof. Even after they gave him a shot to bring it down, he just kept burning up.
Every now and then, he’d mumble in his delirium, calling out Aurelia’s name.
But Aurelia barely reacted. Her expression stayed indifferent, almost detached.

Chapter 383
Two hours later, Cassian’s fever broke, and he gradually regained consciousness.
When he saw Aurelia, he instinctively tried to sit up.
“Stay down, Aurelia said.
Cassian’s voice came out raspy from the fever.
Cassian asked Aurelia, “Did you need something?”
Aurelia didn’t mince words. “Was it you who saved me when I was kidnapped in Grendel a few years ago?”
Cassian pressed his lips together, hesitating for a moment before he finally nodded. “Yes”
“So why didn’t you ever tell me before?” Aurelia asked bluntly.
She’d hinted at it several times, testing him.
But every time she asked, Cassian just went silent.
Aurelia could see he wasn’t willing to answer, so she simply didn’t press him any further.
By now, the answer was irrelevant.
She was only making sure.
“I owe you a favor for this. If you ever need anything, just ask. I won’t hesitate,” Aurelia said, her tone firm. “And here’s a check. It’s to settle what I owe you for helping Regal Investment and me before.”
She meant the rent for the office building and the 30 million dollars Jessica invested.
“I know talking about money sounds tacky, but honestly, it’s all I can offer you right now,” Aurelia added.
The message didn’t need spelling out. It was obvious.
Cassian’s eyes looked hollow, a faint, bitter smile lingering on his lips.
“So, is this you cutting me off?” Cassian asked quietly, his gaze fixed on Aurelia.
He met her gaze.
Her eyes were stunning, but carried a chill, aloof, and distant look.
So different from the way he was utterly consumed by his feelings for her.
“I just don’t want you disturbing the calm I’ve finally found,” Aurelia said honestly, not hiding anything.
Right then, as Aurelia finished speaking, Cassian felt his heart ache, like something inside him just broken.
“It’s my fault,” Cassian said, his voice dropping so low and humble it sounded like he’d been completely broken.
He reached out, wanting to grab Aurelia’s hand.
But she pulled away, her eyes cold and distant, barely even looking at him.
