When the GF9 Test Subject Became His Obsession novel Chapter 159

First High was declared the winner, but before Experimental High could even protest, voices of dissent rose from within Building A itself.

"What the hell was Harry thinking? He’s only ninth in the grade. How dare he steal Kelly’s spot, the top student?"

"He must be desperate for attention. What good is he in the next round anyway?"

"You’re the crazy ones! That was the last chance. If he hadn’t buzzed in, the other team would’ve won. Kelly’s match was stuck at nine to nine—what if she couldn’t finish it?"

"As if Kelly would lose! Didn’t you see she was ahead by one point every round? She definitely would’ve taken the last one!"

And then came the final, decisive moment. Kelly buzzed first.

"Go Kelly!"

"You’ve got this, goddess!"

Her supporters roared, voices shaking the gym.

Kelly’s palms were slick with sweat. She didn’t know the answer.

It was worse than not buzzing in at all. Three options gave her a one-in-three chance. But passing meant certain failure.

Her vision blurred. Her hand trembled. Finally, she pressed her choice.

"Kelly, it should be C…" her partner whispered.

Kelly’s temper snapped. "Are you saying I’m not as good as you?"

She jabbed at B. The buzzer shrieked. Red light flashed.

Wrong.

The arena went silent.

Eyes turned toward her, heavy with disappointment. She had never been so humiliated—not even when she missed a note at the freshman recital.

Her hand shook on the buzzer. She curled it into a fist to keep her "goddess" image intact.

Turning to her partner, she said coolly, "I told you it was C. You insisted on B. Such a pity."

Her tone was cold and regretful. For a moment, Mandy faltered, genuinely doubting herself.

She wanted to protest, but the round moved on, the point handed to Experimental High.

They seized it, scored ten, and advanced.
