"They didn’t leave, so Darren didn’t dare leave either. The school leaders on both sides also stayed rooted in place.
Darren tried to ease the tension. "I’ve prepared a small banquet. If you two professors wouldn’t mind…"
Neither Sean nor Jackson spared him a glance. Instead, they both pulled out their phones, sending messages to their little ancestor.
Sean: "Baby, are you hungry? I’ve prepared a banquet, and there’s fish you like."
Jackson: "You’ve worked hard. Can I treat you to lunch today? My treat!"
Just then, Jeremy walked up. "Serena, want to have lunch together?"
The morning’s victory had been smooth, entirely because Maine hadn’t gone onstage. Serena hadn’t done much, but by removing such a dangerous threat, she had made their win possible.
At his words, Peyton spun around. "Jeremy, are you crazy? Why would you invite her? This is our celebration. She has no right to join!"
The others chimed in quickly, none of them willing to be associated with Serena.
Indigo leaned back against the wall, restless. Harry, who had suffered plenty of backlash because of Serena, kept silent.
Serena stood. "No need. Someone’s already invited me."
Rowan immediately bounded up. "Serena, you were so cool today!"
The research group nearly choked. Cool? She didn’t even go on stage!
Then Thanos and Solstice arrived with a pack of students from Class 17 and Class 19. "We’ve booked a private room at Cinder Restaurant. It’s for your victory celebration!"
Surrounded by more than a dozen rowdy classmates, Serena left the gym like a general returning from a victorious campaign.
"Building B must be insane!"
Several members of the research group were furious.
We were the ones sweating onstage, but they’re celebrating her?
Their voices weren’t loud, but the old foxes on the judges’ platform heard every word.
Sean turned to Darren. "If you’re treating us, let’s go to Cinder Restaurant."
Jackson nodded. "I’ve heard the food there is good. Let’s eat there."
Darren froze. Cinder Restaurant? He’d been born and raised in Evervale City, yet he’d never heard of such a place. Why were these prestigious guests acting like it was a must-visit landmark?
In a panic, he canceled the luxury banquet he’d booked at a five-star hotel and arranged for a private room at Cinder Restaurant instead.
But they were too late—the last private room had already been taken.
What the hell? Since when were there so many rich people in Evervale City?
