**He Promised to Give Me the World, Yet the Price Was My Soul by Caden Blake**
**Chapter 256: A Choice**

**THIRD PERSON POINT OF VIEW**

“Alpha! Alpha!” Austin burst forth from the hidden room, urgency propelling him as he attempted to reach Finn through their mind-link. Each effort, however, met with silence. It wasn’t until he stepped into the corridor that the scene before him crystallized into focus.

He halted abruptly, his breath catching in his throat. The portal behind Ronan flickered shut, sealing off whatever realm it had connected to. Mace, casting a fleeting glance in Austin’s direction, chose to exit the building without uttering a single word. Yet Austin’s gaze remained fixated on the figure who had conjured the portal. As the figure lit a cigarette, the dim light revealed the unmistakable features of Silas.

Austin’s heart raced, a mix of anger and disbelief flooding his senses. “Y-you! Aren’t you the one who took Seraphina that day?” he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper.

Silas regarded him with a nonchalant expression, inhaling deeply from his cigarette. “Planning to summon the Council to come and apprehend me?” he replied, a smirk playing on his lips.

Austin’s frown deepened, his voice steady yet laced with irritation. “I won’t waste my breath. You’ll just flee like you did before.”

Silas leaned against the wall, his demeanor relaxed, exhaling a cloud of smoke that hung in the air like an ominous fog. Austin had anticipated a hasty retreat, but Silas remained rooted in place, seemingly unfazed.

“Why did you open the portal for Alpha Ronan?” Austin pressed, his tone sharp and demanding.

Ever since Aran had revealed that Seraphina was now mated to the Lycan King, Austin had suspected Ronan’s involvement. The aura he had sensed earlier had only solidified his suspicions. Silas had taken Ronan’s soulmate, and now, inexplicably, he was aiding him.

Silas took a slow drag from his cigarette, the pillars of the Lupine Academy trembling under the weight of unseen forces. “I made my choice,” he murmured, his gaze drifting into the distance. “Even if it’s a bit late.”

He had set aside his pride, joining Aran to deliver Seraphina’s gown to Ronan, offering his assistance to mend the chaos he had inadvertently caused. But this time, he needed to prove himself to Ronan.

“What choice? I don’t get it,” Austin began, but his words trailed off as something caught his eye. He raised an eyebrow, noticing Alpha Gideon and Alpha Hugo shifting into their human forms, racing towards the Blackpine Forest. “Do they really think they can stop an earthquake?” he muttered, a frown etching deeper into his features.

Silas tilted his head, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes. “Have you been living under a rock?”

Austin’s jaw tightened, irritation flaring. “What did you just say?”

Pushing off the wall, Silas brushed past him, his expression unreadable. “This isn’t an earthquake. The Blood Petal and Alpha King Asher, who carries a curse, are clashing in the Blackpine Forest, leaving half of it desolate.”

**Chapter 256: A Choice**

Austin’s eyes widened in shock, his heart racing as he turned towards the Blackpine Forest, dread coiling in his stomach. He sprinted outside the Academy building, his gaze darting among the ominous trees, sensing an unnatural tension in the air. The ground trembled beneath him, as if it were preparing to split apart and consume the Academy whole.

Just as that thought crossed his mind, a deafening crash echoed behind him—half of the Academy collapsed in a cloud of dust and debris. Panic surged through him as he stumbled away from the wreckage, watching the once-mighty structure crumble like a house of cards. The remaining Alpha instructors poured out in terror, wolves from the dormitory and healers from the healing wing joining the fray, all fleeing in a frenzy.

“Fuck,” Austin breathed, shaking his head in disbelief as he witnessed the buildings fall, one after another. “Alpha,” he urgently mind-linked Finn. Though silence met him once more, he pressed on, undeterred. “Seraphina and Alpha King Asher are fighting,” he relayed, then turned to add, “And someone attempted to silence Milton with dark magic, likely trying to shut him up before he revealed more about the Blood Petal, but Alpha Ronan killed him not long ago.”

Meanwhile, Finn stood outside the packhouse of his father’s estate, eyeing the army of wolves blocking his path. He mind-linked back, his voice steady yet edged with tension. “Good, the trash has been taken out.” Lifting his gaze to his father, visible through the expansive window, he lowered his tone. “Trace King Charles’s current location. I’ll be a bit late.” With that, he strode towards the wolves, his blue aura flaring like a beacon in the chaos.

Back in the Blackpine Forest, Alpha Hugo and Alpha Gideon shifted back to their human forms, their eyes wide with disbelief as they beheld the ferocious confrontation between Seraphina and Asher. If not for the distinct colors of their fur and their auras, it would have been nearly impossible to differentiate between the two combatants.

Alpha Hugo muttered in disbelief, “We came here to intervene, but unless someone wants to be obliterated, it’s impossible to do so. We are all doomed.”
