As she spoke, Ryker’s gaze flicked behind her, just as the figure emerged from the shadows. A man with piercing violet eyes that locked onto Ryker’s with lethal intent.

With those words, Ryker’s heart skipped a beat, and the next thing he knew, a half–shifted hand shot out and slammed into his face. The force was so brutal that Ryker was thrown out of the circle and crashed into walls. His body smashed through them, hitting four more before finally coming to a halt.

Dread, fully shifted into his lycan form, walked forward through the debris, his massive figure stalking toward Ryker with a deadly purpose. His eyes never left Ryker.

Ryker rolled on the ground, his head cracked open and bleeding, his wide eyes locked onto Dread and Petal. Her earlier words echoed in his mind like poison: my soulmate, my King.

“Impossible…” he gasped, struggling to push himself up on his broken leg, disbelief radiating through every fiber of his being.

She had played him all this time. She had already protected her people, but she had let it drag to the New Moon, when both sides could finally touch each other.

Dread, now fully shifted into his lycan form, stood tall and looming, a predator in every sense. Petal smiled down at Ryker, her eyes gleaming with something cold and triumphant.

“You were curious about my King, Ryker Wraithe,” she said, her voice smooth and mocking. “Now meet the man who can wield dark magic himself to slip into this nightmare and take me back.”

Dread’s eyes flared in fury, his voice low and strained with fury. “You dare desire my mate? Dread Lord’s mate…”

Before Ryker could comprehend her next move, Dread struck, his massive fist colliding with Ryker’s body and sending shockwaves that shook the entire dark palace. “You better not die easily,” Dread growled, his eyes blazing with deadly intent, “not before I’m satisfied that you were capable of such audacity.”

Another brutal hit from Dread caused half of the palace to crumble, sending Ryker tumbling into the wreckage. He groaned, battered and broken, but his dark magic flared. The debris exploded around him as his power surged. He stood, his eyes now completely black, a torrent of darkness emanating from his body.

“So it was you…” Ryker’s voice was low, twisted with madness as he locked eyes with Dread. “The reason she refuses to love me.”
