A wave of anxiety swept over Lemira.
Just as she expected, Evelina was finally making her move.
Orion spoke on the phone, “Don’t worry, I’ll personally keep an eye on things here. We’ll definitely catch that driver.”
“All right, I’ll wait for your news.”
After hanging up, Lemira took a deep breath. So it was finally happening.
She had thought it would take longer—after all, Asher had originally planned to make the payment only after the wedding. But her actions during the day must have provoked him, so perhaps out of spite, or to show how much he trusted Evelina, he had deliberately transferred the money ahead of schedule.
For her, that was actually a good thing.
In the afternoon, guests began to arrive one after another.
Evelina appeared in a simple, fresh white dress. Since she still hadn’t managed to get her hands on a limited-edition designer gown, she didn’t want to show up in a cheap one too early and be laughed at.
Anyway, now that the money had been transferred just as her father instructed, she would soon be free from the Langston family.
Just thinking about that brightened her mood considerably.
Lemira, dressed in plain clothes, came downstairs and saw Evelina outside, beaming as she welcomed the Sinclair sisters inside.
Susanna glanced around with obvious distaste. “This villa is so small.”
A wedding at home? How utterly shabby.
Sophia gently pressed her sister’s hand, then turned to Evelina with a polite smile. “My mother had something urgent to attend to today and couldn’t make it, so my sister and I are here on her behalf. We hope you’ll help explain this to the CEO of PZ Group.”
In truth, it was Mrs. Amanda who wasn’t coming, and her mother felt it was beneath her status to attend alone. After all, a family like the Langstons really wasn’t worthy of Mrs. Amelia’s personal appearance.
Evelina’s smile stiffened. So Mrs. Amelia wasn’t coming again? It was a clear sign of disrespect toward the Langston family! The Sinclairs were in need of money and had sought out this partnership themselves, yet they still managed to act so superior.
Still, Evelina kept her thoughts to herself, though her expression soured.
