Orion's expression turned strikingly somber. "Shut up."
"See? You're feeling guilty, aren't you?" Sophia Sinclair sneered. "I thought nothing in this world could scare you, but even you have your weak moments."
"Sophia, I was actually planning to tell Lemira myself," Orion replied coldly. "Even if you run your mouth, I'd just have to thank you for doing it for me."
Sophia bit her lip, a bitter wave of resentment washing over her; he was absolutely ruthless.
She let out a scoff. "In your dreams. I won't do your dirty work. I want you to look Lemira in the eye and tell her yourself. I want you both to experience this agonizing torment."
I'll make sure you two never end up together!
Sophia turned to leave, but Orion's voice cut through the air. "You'd better watch your step. If your family is doing anything illegal, trust me, it will only make things worse."
He was testing the waters—was Evelina Sterling actually in the Sinclair family's hands?
Surprise flickered in Sophia's eyes. "Since you refuse to help, whatever I do is none of your business. You have no right to lecture me. My mother is innocent!"
She wasn't about to give up so easily.
The game wasn't over until the very end.
Sophia stormed out in a huff.
Orion withdrew his gaze and looked at his secretary. "Hogan, have someone keep a close eye on the Sinclair family's every move, especially Sophia."
He thought about what she had just said. Would that woman really go straight to Lemira?
It felt like a guillotine was suspended over his neck, ready to drop at any second.
Hogan stood nearby, speaking hesitantly, "Mr. Everhart, are we still heading to Bistrova tonight?"
The CEO seemed to be in a terrible mood.
Hogan wondered if he had heard something he shouldn't have. Would he be silenced to keep him quiet?
Orion's tone remained flat. "She guessed it. We can't keep this under wraps much longer."
A long silence hung over the line.
Finally, Mrs. Amanda spoke softly. "Son, I know you feel guilty about Lemira and want to make it up to her, but do you have to ruin everyone in the process? I still refuse to believe Amelia is that kind of person. She never wanted to take Lemira's parents' lives."
But Orion stood firmly on Lemira's side, believing every word she said.
He stood up, gazing out the floor-to-ceiling window. "Mom, Grandma never liked how close you were with Amelia. She always saw right through her, far better than you ever did."
"She just has a habit of taking advantage of little things, but we've been friends for years! She's like family to me."
"She has been using you for years to siphon benefits for the Sinclair family!" Orion's voice edged with fury. "She orchestrated that fatal car crash and deliberately made sure I was in that car, just to ensure her plan went off without a hitch."
"Your so-called best friend never cared about you. Have you ever stopped to think about the immense guilt I've had to live with all these years?"
