“Why can’t we?” she countered.
Matteo was momentarily speechless. “But you said your parents run a small business.”
“It is a small business,” Henrietta replied coolly.
Matteo was baffled. Could she be renting this place too? “Alright. I’m on my way to pick you up,” he said quickly.
When Matteo arrived at the address, he stopped the car and gasped. The estate was a magnificent, European-style palace surrounded by sprawling, manicured gardens. It was a property of staggering scale and opulence, a place that must have cost billions to build.
Matteo’s mind went blank. This was the home of his girlfriend, the daughter of small business owners? If the house was worth this much, what was their net worth? His hands started to tremble as he lit a cigarette, taking several deep drags to calm his nerves.
He pulled out his phone and started searching. A family named Sargent living in a mansion like this in Juno City had to be easy to find. In seconds, he found it: the Sargent Group, a conglomerate with assets in the hundreds of billions and a diverse portfolio of industries.
The cigarette ash fell from his trembling fingers. He couldn’t believe it. Maybe the house was a rental? But even renting a place like this would cost millions a year. So, even if they were renters, her family was far from being ‘small business owners.’
His hands shook uncontrollably. He slapped himself across the face, a wave of intense regret washing over him. Henrietta was already stunningly beautiful. If she also came from a family this wealthy, she was the kind of woman that every man on earth would fight for.
Matteo’s eyes widened, his heart feeling like it would pound out of his chest. His own Mercedes G-Wagon, which he’d always been proud of, suddenly looked cheap and pathetic in comparison.
He quickly checked his reflection in the rearview mirror, adjusting his collar and tie with shaking hands. Once he was sure he looked impeccable and dashing, he opened the car door and stepped out, striking his most handsome pose.
Just as he expected, the roaring Ferraris came to a halt. The custom sedan also stopped smoothly.
Matteo’s heart swelled with excitement. He straightened his tie again, feeling the eyes of the world upon him. In that moment, he felt like a true prince charming.
