When Two Winters Met (Henrietta and Yosef) novel Chapter 100

But the blow never landed. Joaquin froze, his arm trembling with rage, before finally lowering it and slumping back into his chair.

Matteo was shaking. "You care about that? Then… why are you even… pursuing her? Besides, Henrietta loves me! We're going to get back together. She's just angry with me right now."

Joaquin said nothing, lighting another cigarette.

It was then that Artina spoke up, her voice feigning hesitation. "Didn't Ms. Sargent… have an… abortion for you, Matteo?"

Matteo froze and turned to stare at her. Artina immediately clammed up, putting on an act of being frightened.

Joaquin slammed the lighter he was fiddling with onto the table, his eyes fixed on Artina. "Keep talking!"

Artina stammered, "Once, I went to the hospital… and I saw… I saw Ms. Sargent in the gynecology clinic… getting treatment."

Then she looked at Matteo expectantly. Seeing his cue, Matteo could only nod. "Yes. She did lose a child."

Joaquin's face turned as black as thunder. He suddenly stood up, causing Matteo to flinch again. But this time, Joaquin simply walked out. His bodyguards followed, leaving the three of them stunned and silent.

After a long moment, Matteo turned to Artina. "What was that about a child?"

"If I didn't add some fuel to the fire, how else would we get him to give up on Henrietta?" she retorted. "If he doesn't back off, what chance do you have?"

Leon sat down beside them. "Ms. Harmon is right. His standing is a hundred times better than yours. If he doesn't give up, it will be very difficult for you and Ms. Sargent to reconcile."

Artina nodded in agreement. At this point, she was also hoping for Matteo and Henrietta to get back together.

Matteo frowned, thinking. "That's true, but what if he confronts Henrietta about it…"

"How could a man like him confront her about something so personal?" Artina scoffed. "He'll have to weigh his options: either keep chasing her or give up. But the Lelands and the Sargents are equals, and Joaquin has his own status to maintain. He can have any woman he wants. Do you really think he'd choose 'damaged goods' who's had an abortion? He'll give up!"
