She picked up her phone, a hopeful thought crossing her mind. Could it be from Yosef?
Considering the time difference, it should be morning where he was. Had he just woken up?
Henrietta opened WhatsApp and saw that she was right. It was a message from Yosef—a voice note. She pressed her lips together and played it.
Yosef's voice, calm and deep, filled the quiet office. "Good morning, Henrietta. Did you rest well?"
She lowered her gaze and typed a reply. [I did. Are you up for the day?]
Across the desk, Joaquin's expression darkened. The memory of his humiliating encounter with Yosef the day before was still fresh, and hearing his voice made Joaquin's face turn thunderous.
He watched Henrietta, captivated by her beauty even in this tense moment. The way she focused on her phone, she looked like a delicate, flawless porcelain doll, a work of art that any man would covet.
Yosef's reply came quickly. "Yes, just got up," his voice said through the speaker. "Getting ready for a summit I have to attend today."
Henrietta's eyebrows arched slightly. He was telling her his schedule again. A small smile touched her lips, transforming her cold expression into something soft and warm. It was the look of a woman in love, or at least one who felt cherished.
Joaquin's mood soured even further.
Henrietta, genuinely pleased by Yosef's message, typed back. [Okay, have a good day at work.]
She paused, then added a few more words. [Remember to eat on time, and be safe.]
Yosef's response was almost immediate, his voice tinged with amusement. "I will. I'll listen to my wife."
Henrietta felt a blush creep up her cheeks.
Joaquin's face went from dark to stormy, his chest rising and falling with suppressed rage. One of them was calling her "wife," and the other was blushing? Was he invisible?
Henrietta sent one last message. [I won't disturb you then. No need to reply.]
Now she needed to deal with Joaquin.
Setting her phone down, she looked directly at him. "We had one date, which led to nothing. That's the extent of our association. It's perfectly normal for a date not to work out, so I don't understand why you're making such a scene. You know that I am now married to a man you can't afford to cross. It's time for you to back off before this gets ugly for everyone. Surely the head of the Leland Group isn't a fool. You can see as well as I can that continuing this will only bring you harm, right?"
