Their entire family fortune wasn't even a third of the value of this one house owned by his darling Henrietta.
"Oh," Henrietta said, her expression indifferent. "This is nothing. We wouldn't even rank among the top circles."
Matteo smiled dotingly, his gaze overflowing with affection. "My lady is just being modest."
With Henrietta’s status confirmed, Matteo could already envision his glorious future. He was about to become the son-in-law to a billionaire dynasty!
Why would he need to keep acting? Who cared about being a movie star? It was exhausting work.
After they got engaged today, he would seal the deal with her tonight. Then he would quit acting. As the son-in-law of a billionaire, it wouldn't be too much to ask for a company to run as CEO, would it? The Sargent family had so many businesses; he could just pick one that interested him.
At the thought, Matteo's smile widened.
But Henrietta’s next words were like a splash of cold water. "It's not that I'm being modest. It's that you lack perspective."
The Nash family was wealthy enough to rival a nation, possessing a third of the world’s wealth. If Matteo ever saw their estate, would he drop to his knees on the spot?
Matteo's smile froze. Though he disliked her looking down on him, he knew it was the truth. He truly did lack perspective.
"You're right," Matteo said agreeably. "I come from a humble background, and you were born into an elite family. Of course, I don't have the same perspective as my darling. By the way..."
He suddenly remembered the two disrespectful drivers. "Henrietta, what's the deal with your drivers?"
Henrietta frowned.
Matteo straightened his tie, adopting an air of superiority. "I asked them a question, and they just ignored me! With that kind of attitude, how can they be working for your family? They're going to drag down my future in-laws' reputation."
The two drivers, still clueless, stood at attention and bowed their heads. "Miss."
Matteo adjusted his tie again, puffing out his chest. But to his surprise, Henrietta turned her cool gaze on him. "And who are you, exactly?"
Matteo froze. "Henrietta," he said hurriedly. "Baby, I'm your boyfriend. We're getting engaged today, which makes me your fiancé. In fact, after the engagement today, let's get married tomorrow. I imagine planning our wedding will take some time. Don't worry, my love. Even though my family can't compare to yours, I will give you the absolute best of everything. I'll pour everything I have into giving you the most magnificent and perfect wedding imaginable."
Henrietta stared at him. "You're going to pay for a wedding with your few bucks? Would that even cover the venue deposit?"
Matteo’s ears burned with embarrassment. "Baby…"
Henrietta cut him off. "And what gives you the confidence to think I want to marry you?"
