Winona opened her mouth to speak but ultimately said nothing. From her perspective, it was a difficult situation to comment on. After all, Joaquin’s relentless pestering was born out of his infatuation with Henrietta.
Henrietta looked at Winona, wanting to say something herself, but the words wouldn’t come. They had been the closest of friends, but this man had suddenly created an unspoken barrier between them.
Finally, Winona broke the silence. “Henrietta, you’re a married woman, yet Joaquin is still behaving this shamelessly. His bodyguards look professional. Don’t you think… you should tell Mr. Nash?”
Henrietta frowned slightly. She had considered it but decided against it. If she couldn’t handle something this minor, what did that say about her capabilities? Besides, Yosef was busy and currently out of the country.
And they had already had a tense confrontation at her front gate. Joaquin was no fool; he wouldn’t provoke someone he couldn’t afford to offend. The fact that he was still spouting nonsense about “pursuing” her even after knowing she was married meant he must have an ace up his sleeve.
She suspected that ace was Britney. After all, Britney and Yosef had parted amicably. They were still friends who occasionally attended events together, a starkly different situation from her and Matteo.
Perhaps Joaquin’s goal was to provoke her, to escalate their conflict and see how Yosef would handle it.
Henrietta’s brow furrowed. It was best to leave it for now. Let Joaquin perform his one-man show. She would remain cold, refusing to engage or be provoked. She was curious to see how long he could keep it up and how far he would go.
...
Once outside the office, Joaquin placed a cigarette between his lips. He hadn’t just brought bodyguards today; his private assistant, Seth, was also with him.
Seth quickly lit the cigarette. “Mr. Leland,” he said in a low voice, “Y-N Group has been stonewalling several of our projects. They’re not refusing to cooperate, just delaying and dragging things out. When we inquire, they’re dismissive. It’s clearly a warning from Mr. Nash. Are you… sure you want to continue like this?”
Joaquin took a deep drag. “What’s there to be afraid of? This is the most he can do. He can’t completely cut ties with Britney; there are still feelings there. As for Henrietta…” He chuckled. “She might just end up with nothing. When that happens, I’ll be the good guy and take her off his hands.”
Seth nodded, then ventured, “You… truly like Ms. Sargent?”
Joaquin’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Who wouldn’t like a beauty like her? What do you think of her?”
Seth considered it. “I believe Ms. Sargent would be an exceptional partner. Her character, at least, is far superior to many others.”
Joaquin’s smile grew wider. “Exactly. We have a long road ahead. A whole lifetime. I’m in no rush to marry her.”
True to his word, Joaquin paid for everything. Jolie, showing no restraint, gleefully spent millions of dollars, her eyes shining with avarice. Joaquin didn’t flinch, treating the millions like pocket change. Jolie gushed with thanks, repeatedly trying to throw herself into his arms, only to be rebuffed each time.
