She was thinking the same thing as Henrietta. This situation involved Jethro now. If Henrietta's plan to utterly disgrace Artina went forward, would Jethro, in an effort to save his own reputation, try to stop it? After all, he wasn't just in an arranged marriage with her; he seemed quite taken with her. The scandal would be a huge embarrassment.
And if he tried to stop it, perhaps even pleading with her not to expose Artina, what would Henrietta do? Would she grant him that favor or not?
If she did, her whole plan would have to be abandoned halfway through. If she didn't... would it create friction with her new in-laws? There was no telling if Jethro would hold a grudge. And worse, if Henrietta refused Jethro, what if he asked Yosef to intervene on his behalf? If her own husband asked her to stop, would she concede?
It was a real headache. More importantly, if she couldn't expose Artina, could she even expose Matteo? The two of them were tied together. Even if the evidence was altered to blur out Artina, Matteo could use it as a defense, claiming Henrietta was fabricating lies. What if he demanded she reveal the other person or admit the whole thing was a setup?
Winona's mind raced, and Henrietta's brow was furrowed in silent thought. They were on the exact same page.
Finally, Winona asked bluntly, "Henrietta, if... if Mr. Nash asks you to stop, to spare Artina, would you do it?"
If that happened, their only option would be to swallow their anger and deal with the pair privately. It would be easy enough for them to crush the two in Juno City. The only reason they were letting them thrive now was for the glorious downfall plan. To let someone reach the clouds—to taste limitless fame, adoration, money, and power—only to cast them into the deepest abyss... that was true suffering.
The question seemed to stun Henrietta. She rubbed her temples. "I don't know. I need time to think."
"Okay," Winona nodded. "Think it over. We don't even know where things stand with Artina and Jethro. Last night, it was clear Artina is determined to marry into the Nash family. Even if she's still fooling around with Matteo, she won't give up a chance to climb the social ladder like that. Does Jethro even like her? Why is he so good to her?"
Henrietta looked up. "Last I heard, she was some unforgettable girl from his childhood, so I assume he likes her. I don't know the specifics, and I don't know how far they've gone. But since Artina still needs to get an abortion and have her hymen repaired, they probably haven't slept together."
At that thought, Henrietta's hands clenched into fists. Just talking about it filled her with uncontrollable rage.
The words came out with difficulty, as if she were saying them not to Winona, but to convince herself.
Winona frowned, her own tone growing heavy. "I'll support whatever you do. But are you sure? You won't give up, even if Mr. Nash intervenes? Even if it creates a rift between you? And if he can't convince you, Jethro might go to Zelina. If that happens..."
She didn't finish the sentence. If that happened, Henrietta's position in the Nash family could become very awkward and precarious.
Winona rephrased her point. "If they are determined to stop you, are you really willing to risk your own happiness for a pair of degenerates? Henrietta, think about what's more important. Don't lose something precious over something so vile."
Even as she said it, Winona felt a surge of frustration. After all, they had been setting this up for over a month, investing resources, even giving Jolie opportunities. For a month, they had been 'letting' these disgusting people have their way, all for the sake of the plan. If it was all for nothing, it would be incredibly infuriating.
