After thinking it over, Matteo realized there was no other way. It was a desperate measure, but it was all they had.
But after a while, their efforts proved fruitless. The baby, it seemed, was determined to hang on.
Matteo couldn't continue. "Let's just get some sleep. We have to film tomorrow," he said, completely spent.
Artina was also exhausted. "Fine. I told Jethro I had to stay at my parents' for a week anyway. We still have time." She refused to believe that several days of this wouldn't work.
Henrietta was up early the next morning. She hadn't slept well either. Although she trusted her instincts, a part of her was still inexplicably worried. After getting out of bed, she sent a text message. A reply came back almost immediately: *She went to the villa at 2 AM.*
Henrietta let out a breath of relief. *Good. Is the conversation transcript ready?* she texted back.
*It is.*
*Send it to me.*
The file arrived, and as Henrietta read it, a wave of nausea washed over her. After washing up, she ran into Yosef in the hallway.
"You're up early. Didn't you sleep well?" he asked.
Henrietta thought for a moment. "I need you to come with me somewhere this afternoon. And bring Jethro along."
Yosef raised an eyebrow. "Are you trying to play peacemaker?"
"No," she shook her head. "Matteo is still living in a villa I own, and I plan to take it back. After that, I was hoping to have dinner with Jethro."
Despite her denial, Yosef still interpreted it as an attempt to mend fences, albeit a subtle one. He considered it for a moment. "Henrietta, I don't think you can be a peacemaker right now. Jethro is completely wrapped up in this. If he had an ounce of rationality left, he wouldn't have been so insistent on getting that certificate yesterday. We gave them a fake one, so now we have to let time do its work until he figures it out. He won't listen to anyone right now. Not even Mom and Dad."
Henrietta pressed her lips together. "I guarantee that this time, he won't be able to insist anymore."
Yosef, ever perceptive, caught the hidden meaning in her tone. "You have something convincing, don't you?"
After a brief pause, Henrietta said, "Yes, I do."
"What is it?" he asked.
She looked at him, her expression serious. "Mr. Nash... do you trust me?"
On set, Charlotte wrapped filming at five in the afternoon, just as Henrietta had requested. Yosef had already called Jethro and told him not to contact Artina. After work, he picked up Jethro and then went to get Henrietta. Henrietta had brought her own team: Winona, Charlotte, and the head of her legal department, a top-tier lawyer.
Once the two groups met, Henrietta got into Yosef's car, while Charlotte, Winona, and the lawyer took another.
As soon as they were on their way, Jethro asked, "Henrietta, why are you only deciding to take back the house now?" His tone was slightly accusatory, implying that she should have done it right after the breakup. And why, he wondered, was he and Yosef being dragged along?
"I just didn't get around to it before," Henrietta replied simply. She then changed the subject. "Have you been in touch with Artina today?"
Jethro frowned. "Yosef told me not to. What are you two planning?"
"Oh," Henrietta said. "Well, you can send her a message now and ask what she's doing. But don't tell her I'm on my way to reclaim the house."
Jethro's frown deepened. Her words were strange, and a vague suspicion began to form in his mind. He didn't say anything, but he took out his phone and sent Artina a text. She replied a moment later, saying that filming had ended early and she had just gotten home. She even sent a picture of the Harmon family living room and asked flirtatiously if he missed her. Jethro thought for a moment and played along, saying he did. Then he suggested he come over to the Harmon's for dinner. According to Artina's 'tradition,' she had to stay at her parents' house for a week, but that didn't mean they couldn't see each other.
Artina's reply was immediate. "Honey, not just yet."
Jethro's expression hardened. "Why not?"
