When Two Winters Met (Henrietta and Yosef) novel Chapter 54

Winona had graduated with a degree in finance; she was an absolute professional when it came to investing.

“Done,” Winona said, raising her latte. “To us becoming the new queens of Juno City!”

Charlotte sipped her own latte. “But Henrietta, didn’t you decide on an arranged marriage? Won’t acting affect that?”

The elite class generally saw actresses as playthings, rarely as marriage material. Even if one did marry in, she was usually the second wife.

“It won’t,” Henrietta said. “If he minds, then we’ll call it off. Besides acting, nothing else really interests me. I need something to do.”

“Call what off? The arranged marriage?” Winona asked.

Henrietta nodded.

Just then, a knock came at the door. It opened, and her secretary stood in the doorway. “Ms. Sargent, Matteo Coleman would like to see you.”

Henrietta raised an eyebrow. “Let him in.”

Winona lowered her voice. “What does he want now?”

“To get back together, obviously,” Henrietta said. “What else?”

Matteo walked in and approached her. “Henrietta.”

“It’s Ms. Sargent,” she corrected him without even looking up.

He faltered for a moment before recovering. “Ms. Sargent, I’d like to speak with you alone.”

Winona and Charlotte rose and left the office. As soon as they were gone, Matteo dropped to his knees. Henrietta sipped her latte, her expression indifferent, not even bothering to speak.

Seeing her silence, Matteo spoke first, his eyes red. “I’m sorry. I never knew you did so much for me.”

“Begging me?” Henrietta raised an eyebrow coolly, her gaze falling on his trembling hand.

Matteo froze, suddenly afraid to move.

Henrietta suddenly lifted her foot, the pointed toe of her shoe pressing directly under Matteo’s chin. She looked down at him with that same cool indifference, as if observing a pathetic ant.

Matteo was stunned. He had never imagined Henrietta capable of such a wild, assertive gesture!

Seeing her cool yet untamed defiance, Matteo was deeply shaken. Finally, he swallowed hard. “Yes! I’m begging you! I can’t bear the pain of losing you.”

Henrietta’s lips tightened. The tip of her shoe slid slowly from his chin, down to his collarbone, and then to his chest. Finally, it rested over his heart, pressing down and grinding slightly. “You think you’re worthy of getting back together with me?”

With that, she gave a sharp kick, sending the unprepared Matteo sprawling to the floor.
